"description": "In contrast to the author's previous book, Healing the Unimaginable: Treating Ritual Abuse and Mind Control, which was for therapists, this book is designed for survivors of these abuses. It takes the survivor systematically through understanding the abuses and how his or her symptoms may be consequences of these abuses, and gives practical advice regarding how a survivor can achieve stability and manage the life issues with which he or she may have difficulty. The book also teaches the survivor how to work with his or her complex personality system and with the traumatic memories, to heal the wounds created by the abuse.A unique feature of this book is that it addresses the reader as if he or she is dissociative, and directs some information and exercises towards the internal leaders of the personality system, teaching them how to build a cooperative and healing inner community within which information is shared, each part's needs are met, and traumatic memories can be worked through successfully.",

The civilizational crisis called the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution still eludes our historical, political, and psychological understanding. This book helps to fill the gap. It features twelve extended, psychoanalytically-oriented interviews, six with witnesses to the revolution and six more with sons and daughters. Team analysis of the transcripts is buttressed by sinological, historical, and social-psychological essays. The authors explore Chinese ways of processing the experience of violence, both individually and in collective memory, and identify psycho-traumatic consequences for witnesses and for the following generation.",

"description": "Interpretation is the primary intervention of psychoanalysis. Until now it has been discussed almost exclusively from a technical standpoint, rather than its relationship to the mind, human life, and how it affects the personality. This book explores the intrinsic nature of interpretation in psychoanalysis. For that purpose, two streams of thought are brought into dialogue with one another: Anglo-American psychoanalysis and Continental European philosophical hermeneutics, the study of meaning and interpretation. This book celebrates and makes explicit the value of interchanges between the paradigm of science and philosophical hermeneutics. It is divided into three sections, preceded by a discussion of the relationship between psychoanalysis, hermeneutics, and the sciences, with psychoanalysis at a crossroads seeking a new path. Part I starts with a consideration of Freud's methodology in The Interpretation of Dreams, moving to a review of ancient, romantic, and modern theories of interpretation as they relate to psychoanalysis. Part II, largely intended for clinicians, provides a hermeneutical view of the psychoanalytic situation, the dimensions and polarities of treatment, the components of the unfolding process, and a discussion of self-transformation and personality change. Part III, which may be read as a series of independent essays, offers reflections on selected Anglo-American schools of psychoanalysis from the standpoint of philosophical hermeneutics. Included are examinations of the work of Melanie Klein, Donald Winnicott, and W.R. Bion, as well as explorations of relational psychoanalysis, intersubjectivity, and neuroscience.",

"description": "Has Jacques Lacan's impact on psychoanalysis really been assessed? His formulation that the Freudian unconscious is \"structured like a language\" is well-known, but this was only the beginning. There was then the radically new thesis of the \"real unconscious\". Why this step?Searching for the Ariadne's thread that runs throughout Lacan's ever-evolving teaching, this book illuminates the questions implicit in each step, and sheds new light on his revisions and renewals of psychoanalytic concepts. In tracing these, Colette Soler brings out their consequences for the clinic, and in particular, for the subject, for symptoms, for affects, and for the aims of treatment itself. The last section of the book examines the political import of these developments. If many analysts since Freud have dreamt of reinventing psychoanalysis, Colette Soler shows the ways in which Lacan succeeded in this reinvention.",

"description": "A graphic novel that promotes HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention to teens and young adultsMarcus Johnson has just been named star quarterback for the Marina High School Pirates. Former quarterback Brad Timmerman will do anything to depose this new rival and regain his position and popularityincluding setting up Marcus with Maria Cruz, who is HIV positive. As secrets are exposed, this encounter will shake the halls of Marina High and change the lives of these students forever. AIDS in the End Zone approaches HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention through a compelling narrative with high school drama, the dangers of high-risk behaviors, and the benefits of public health resources. The graphic novella is the result of an innovative collaboration between editors Kendra S. Albright and Karen W. Gavigan, illustrator Sarah Petrulis, and the authorsstudents at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ). Albright and Gavigan began this project in response to research indicating that the graphic novel format is a highly successful educational tool for motivating young adults to read. They chose HIV/AIDS as their topic because South Carolina ranks eighth in the nation for new HIV cases, while the capital city of Columbia ranks sixth nationally among metropolitan areas. By working with teen students at the SCDJJ, Albright and Gavigan were able to develop characters, a storyline, setting, and dialog as a collaborative projectengaging the students in the public health subject matter as well as in the creative process. This project was funded in part by a grant from the Association for Library and Information Science Education.",

The 80 varied walking routes cover 4 areas around the island - Pollenca and the north, The Central Mountains, Andratx and the south, and the Serra de Llevant. It provides a selection of walks of all degrees of difficulty, and should enable even those limited to a short holiday to make the best use of their time. Circular walks have been described whenever possible, but sometimes it is necessary to return the same way to the starting point. Rugged mountain walks contrast with remote valleys, while waymarked trails give way to long-forgotten mule tracks and hidden mountain passes. Some walks run close to breathtaking cliff coastlines, while others pass through sleepy villages where welcome refreshment can be obtained. Reprinted in 2014 with updates.",

"description": "This guidebook describes the 'classic' route to walking the GR20 on Corsica, along with high- and low-level alternatives, plus extra mountain climbs. The guide explains exactly what is involved in following the GR20, including what walkers need to carry and how difficult the route is in places. Detailed route descriptions give all the information required and there are stunning photographs to inspire you along the way. Corsica is a mountainous island in the Mediterranean and its GR20 is one of the greatest adventure treks in Europe. It is reputed to be the toughest waymarked trail of all the GR routes. An ambitious route for fit and agile walkers, it covers 190km in about two weeks as it makes a complete traverse through the high mountains, negotiating magnificent mountain terrain and following the rocky central spine of Corsica across the whole length of the island. Some sections of the route are on walking trails, others are on bare rock where some hands-on scrambling is necessary. Facilities are limited to a dozen mountain refuges and a mere handful of hotels or gites.",

But what they don't grasp is how their current position could be a springboard to their next position--or even the one after that. Caught between a fear of failure and a desire for instant success, they limit the risks they take, unwittingly limiting their opportunities. As much as they want to get ahead, they simply can't see how to get there. Trajectory is the answer. Each and every person has their own \"trajectory\" or career path--and this timely and refreshingly practical new book presents seven strategies designed to help anyone create and manage theirs. Readers will discover how to: Make the most of feedback Avoid stagnation and break through plateaus Think big, act small, and move quick Achieve growth through failure Move to the front of the pack through persistence Continuously develop both \"soft\" and \"hard\" professional skills And much more Career success doesn't happen overnight. From building relationships with mentors, to positioning (and repositioning) yourself for promotion--this essential guide provides the tools you need for a lifetime of advancement.",

Rather than being told what to teach, proactive designers collect data to define problems and develop training interventions. Written by one of the originators of computer-based training, Handshaw's results-oriented model is systematic, yet flexible, and works for both instructor-led training and e-learning. Readers will learn how to:\n\n Analyze performance gaps\n Create targeted performance objectives and connect them with the right measurement tools\n Determine the best instructional strategy and the appropriate media\n Build consensus with project blueprint meetings\n Evaluate the effectiveness of training and use the data to continually improve.\n\nLearning goals and business goals should go hand in hand. Here are the tools, worksheets, and assessments needed to tie the learning experience to enhanced performance outcomes--and deliver sustainable, quantifiable business results.",

There's a whole new range of issues on the horizon. What if your daughter texts a naked picture to a \"boyfriend\"...which he then forwards to the entire class? What if your son becomes increasingly withdrawn...Or your child is being bullied online? Would you know what to do? You could read a whole book on teen psychology--but who has the time! As a parent, what you need most is quick and candid advice for dealing with the issue at hand. After all, if you say the right thing you will open up the lines of communication, but say the wrong thing...and WATCH OUT. A Survival Guide to Parenting Teens is the solution. Covering a broad range of issues from the terrifying (sex, drinking, drugs, depression) to the frustrating (defiance, laziness, conformity, entitlement), parenting expert Joani Geltman approaches each of the 80 topics with honesty and a dash of humor. Want to understand why teens do what they do? Joani reveals what they are thinking and feeling--and what developmental factors are involved. She then explains how to approach each problem in a way that lets your kid know you \"get it\" and leads to truly productive conversations. From lying to sexting to falling grades, the teenage years can be an uphill battle. Here is the no-nonsense guide you need to get your teen talking, listening, and back on track.",

"description": "A collection of short personal essays on complex issues that range from humorous to poignantPhoning Home is a collection of entertaining and thought-provoking essays featuring the author's quirky family, his Jewish heritage, and his New York City upbringing. Jacob M. Appel's recollections and insights, informed and filtered by his advanced degrees in medicine, law, and ethics, not only inspire nostalgic feelings but also offer insight into contemporary medical and ethical issues. At times sardonic and at others self-deprecating, Appel lays bare the most private aspects of his emotional life. \"We'd just visited my grandaunt in Miami Beach, the last time we would ever see her. I had my two travel companions, Fat and Thin, securely buckled into the backseat of my mother's foul-tempered Dodge Dart,\" writes Appel of his family vacation with his two favorite rubber cat toys. Shortly thereafter Fat and Thin were lost foreverbeginning, when Appel was just six years old, what he calls his \"private apocalypse.\" Both erudite and full-hearted, Appel recounts storylines ranging from a bout of unrequited love gone awry to the poignant romance of his grandparents. We learn of the crank phone calls he made to his own family, the conspicuous absence of Jell-O at his grandaunt's house, and family secrets long believed buried. The stories capture the author's distinctive voicea blend of a physician's compassion and an ethicist's constant questioning.",
