Who decides how much water can be used by a city or irrigator? Does the federal government get involved in state water issues? Why is water in Colorado so controversial? These questions, and others like them, are addressed in Colorado Water Law for Non-Lawyers. This concise and understandable treatment of the complex web of Colorado water laws is the first book of its kind. Legal issues related to water rights in Colorado first surfaced during the gold mining era of the 1800s and continue to be contentious today with the explosive population growth of the twenty-first century. Drawing on geography and history, the authors explore the flashpoints and water wars that have shaped Colorado's present system of water allocation and management. They also address how this system, developed in the mid-1800s, is standing up to current tests - including the drought of the past decade and the competing interests for scarce water resources - and predict how it will stand up to new demands in the future. This book will appeal to non-lawyers involved in water quality issues, students, and attorneys and water professionals desiring a succinct and readable summary of Colorado water law, as well as general readers interested in Colorado's complex water rights law.</p>", "author": "P. Gold and silver mining laid the foundation for Colorado's economy, and 1859 marked the beginning of a fever for these precious metals. Mining changed the state and its people forever, affecting settlement, territorial status, statehood, publicity, development, investment, economy, jobs both in and outside the industry, transportation, tourism, advances in mining and smelting technology, and urbanization. Moreover, the first generation of Colorado mining brought a fascinating collection of people and a new era to the region. Written in a lively manner by one of Colorado's preeminent historians, this book honors the 2009 sesquicentennial of Colorado's gold rush. Like peoples around the word, Utah's native inhabitants organized themselves in family units, groups, bands, clans, and tribes. Today, six Indian tribes in Utah are recognized as official entities. They include the Northwestern Shoshone, the Goshutes, the Paiutes, the Utes, the White Mesa or Southern Utes, and the Navajos (Dineh). Each tribe has its own government. Tribe members are citizens of Utah and the United States; however, lines of distinction both within the tribes and with the greater society at large have not always been clear. Migration, interaction, war, trade, intermarriage, common threats, and challenges have made relationships and affiliations more fluid than might be expected. In this volume, the editor and authors endeavor to write the history of Utah's first residents from an Indian perspective. An introductory chapter provides an overview of Utah's American Indians and a concluding chapter summarizes the issues and concerns of contemporary Indians and their leaders. Chapters on each of the six tribes look at origin stories, religion, politics, education, folkways, family life, social activities, economic issues, and important events. They provide an introduction to the rich heritage of Utah's native peoples. As printing technology moves forward at an equally fast pace, the new inkjet printers are capable of printing with great precision at a very fine resolution, providing an amazing tonal range and significantly superior image permanence at a more affordable price. In the hands of knowledgeable photographers, these printers are able to produce prints that are comparable to the highest quality darkroom prints on fine art paper. The third edition of this best-selling book provides the necessary foundation for successful fine art printing: the understanding of color management, profiling, paper, and inks. It offers advice on selecting an appropriate printer for long-lasting fine art prints, demonstrates how to set up the printing workflow and select a suitable paper for your subject, and guides you step-by-step through the process of converting an image file to an outstanding fine art print. This new edition covers the most recent lines of high-end inkjet printers, photo papers, and devices for monitor and printer profiling. It also addresses the printing dialogs and some new features of Photoshop CS6.", "author": "Uwe Steinmueller, Juergen Gulbins", "slug": "fine-art-printing-for-photographers-47798-9781457182211-uwe-steinmueller-juergen-gulbins", "thumbnail_image": "//redshelf-images.s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/thumbnail/9781457182211.jpg", "default_thumbnail_image": "//redshelf-images.s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/thumbnail/default_book_thumbnail.jpg", "product_type": "book", "product_id": "47798", "product_url": "/app/ecom/book/47798/fine-art-printing-for-photographers-47798-9781457182211-uwe-steinmueller-juergen-gulbins", "bisac_codes": [ "PHO017000", "PHO024000" ], "items_count": null, "identifiers": { "ISBN13": "9781937538248", "ISBN10": "1457182211", "EISBN13": "9781457182211", "EISBN10": "1457182211" }, "drm": null, "cover_image": null, "default_cover_image": null, "book_type": null }, "relationships": { "lowest_offering": { "data": { "type": "offerings", "id": "00010000058839" } } } }, { "type": "Product", "id": "00010000047760", "attributes": { "name": "Make: Technology on Your Time Volume 26", "subtitle": "", "description": "<p>MAKE Volume 26: Karts & WheelsGarage go-kart building is a time-honored hobby for do-it-yourselfers, and we'll show you how to build wheeled wonders thatll have you and the kids racing around the neighborhood in DIY style.
