But as this book shows, that engine can easily break down:If the family, ownership, and business circles related to the business fail to hold regular and candid conversations that clarify ownership's intent for the business and the rules for family members' ownership of and employment in the companyAnd if the business fails to run itself on solid, independent business principlesUsing an entertaining case study of a composite company, Blooms Floral, the authors coach readers in how to conduct these conversations to ensure that future generations of their family business not only survive, but thrive.",

How would it all turn out?

Labatt was born into privilege, the youngest child of John Sackville Labatt, who, with his brother, Hugh, ran the family-owned brewery John Labatt Limited in London, Ontario. Arthur spent his youth looking forward to, and enjoying, summers at Port Stanley on Lake Erie and Camp Ahmek in Algonquin Park. He was only vaguely aware of the shadow cast over his family by the famous kidnapping of his father in 1934.

His education, however, took him on a decidedly zigzag itinerary through an assortment of Roman Catholic and public schools. And by the time it was his turn to join Labatt's, his father had died, the firm was on its way to being sold, and he had taken a detour from his studies at McGill University, becoming a chartered accountant under the auspices of Clarkson, Gordon & Company.

Things began to make more sense to him after a period of career moves at Clarkson's and then investment dealer McLeod Young Weir. After four years in Paris selling Canadian securities to institutional investors in Europe for MYW, he got his feet wet in the insurance and trust industries and then, with portfolio manager Bob Krembil and mutual fund salesman Michael Axford, started a mutual fund company, Trimark Investment Management Inc., which they eventually sold to U.K.-based AMVESCAP (now called Invesco).",

With clear-eyed vision and sheer grit -- and in the face of incredible odds and challenges -- they create new, successful enterprises. They also share a secret pain. Once their business is built, they suffer in the day-to-day management roles they've fashioned for themselves, burdened with responsibilities they hadn't foreseen or don't want.But they can't or don't know how to let go.In this practical and compelling book, Bruce Hunter provides entrepreneurs with candid insight, no-nonsense advice, and powerful tools for focused action. The Success Cage is an invaluable guide to building a high-performance business that thrives without the owner/entrepreneur's day-to-day involvement.And the result for entrepreneurs? The hapless millennials struggling to find a footing. A crisis in pensions. A crisis in jobs. A crisis in health care ... But is that the true story? In this provocative new book, David Cravit, author of The New Old, dissects the apparent war -- and comes to some surprising conclusions:Yes, there are intergenerational conflicts (and some of them look serious)
... but the \"war\" is a matter of emotion more than realityYes, the boomers and seniors are changing all the rules of the \"expected\" way to age
... but the results are anything but dire, as so many pundits would have us believeYes, the millennials are outnumbered and ill-equipped
... but they're being saved, anywayAs Cravit shows, even as the apparent intergenerational war unfolds, the winning \"army\" is already creating the peace ... and the foundations for a much more creative, cooperative, and successful society of the future.",

                "subtitle": "Social and Behavioural Issues",
                "description": "Cities and countries around the world are focused on enhancing their living conditions through ways that go beyond the brick and mortar of urban planning. Just like in other highly-urbanised cities, life and living in Singapore is highly dependent on many other dimensions such as health, access to various services, social interactions, inter-group relations and community bonds. Social and behavioural factors will need to be incorporated when designing and implementing policies and interventions to enhance liveability.This invaluable book, based on the proceedings at the Behavioural Sciences Institute Conference 2014, documents an exchange of ideas among practitioners, academics and public intellectuals on liveability in Singapore. The book is organized into four parts. Part I provides an overview of liveability issues. Part II examines liveability from the perspectives of health and urban planning. Part III analyses the relationships linking quality of life to social class and social services. Part IV addresses specific questions on liveability in terms of public transport, cost of living, government's public communications, role of free market values in town planning, civil society, citizen well-being and whether there is a psychological gulf between government and people.This book will provide the reader valuable perspectives, an increased understanding of issues related to the liveability in Singapore and many potential applications to reflect on.",

                "description": "One route to wealth during the 1850s and '60s gold rushes was uncovering a nugget or glittering seam. A much more certain alternative was owning inns on roads to the goldfields. Irish Gold tells the story of two enterprising Irish settlers, Jeremiah Lehane and Miles Murphy, who adopted the second course and, with their families, led action-packed lives in the Yass-Young region of southern NSW. The book is also a celebration of those optimistic times, and of a pioneer newspaper, the Yass Courier, that recorded them with insight and humour. There was plenty of news around: Ben Hall's gang roamed the countryside, free selection was threatening the sway of the squatters, the attempted assassination of the Duke of Edinburgh stirred sectarian passions, a great flood devastated Yass...",

                "description": "Antonia Hildebrand, author of The Nine Eleven Handbook, explores how the neo-liberal worldview was created and for what social, political and economic purposes it came into being. Going back to the Great Depression of the thirties, Hildebrand describes an agenda devoted to the creation of an elite which is now so insulated by its power that it is largely unaccountable and owns a large slab of the world's wealth. In the United States at least, it controls the law, the military, the media and the banking system, leading to widespread injustice, social instability and financial collapses that are all the more threatening because they are now global. This elite now wants to rule the world and is attempting to give its tyranny the appearance of legality by creating 'free trade agreements' which render national governments impotent and the outcomes of elections null and void. Drawing on historical fact, Hildebrand lays bare the desire for untrammelled power that lies behind such catch cries as 'the level playing field', 'workplace flexibility' and 'deregulation' while exploring the ubiquitous intrusion of free market economics into every area of 21st century life. To many people the unravelling of democracy and national sovereignty may seem random, even inevitable, but in The Blind Colossus, the methodical plan to re-create a feudal system and turn the entire world into a vast labour hire firm is clarified and dissected, revealing that none of it is random. It is, rather, a carefully constructed plan to render democracy and even the rule of law irrelevant and archaic. For this elite, anything that doesn't increase its wealth and power is to be swept into the dustbin of history.",

In the dark days of a long recovery, Kessler explored the Kabbalah and the discoveries of quantum physics, developing a system of moral principles from the truths of how the universe began and operates.
