Auerdem konnte die Zahl der Korrespondenten um 9 (Cluver, Elsholz, Herzog Ernst August, Hooke, Horb, Portner, Ph. J. Spener, Stensen, Spitzel), die der Briefe um 26 vermehrt, so da der Band nun 284 Briefe von 70 Korrespondenten enthalt. Schlielich ist der Band mit einem Vorwort und einer neuen Einleitung versehen worden. Insgesamt hat sich damit der Umfang des Bandes um fast das Doppelte erweitert. Die sich nun - aufgrund der dem Band hinzugefugten Untersuchungen und Erlauterungen - starker in ihrer gegenseitigen Verflechtung darbietende Korrespondenz lat Leibniz' philosophische Entwicklung von seiner Studienzeit in Leipzig, Jena und Altdorf und der ersten beruflichen Tatigkeit in Mainz uber seinen vierjahrigen Paris-Aufenthalt und die Anstellung am Hof von Hannover bis zum Winter des Jahres 1685/86 verfolgen, in dem er mit dem \"Discours de metaphysique\" eine erste systematischen Zusammenfassung seiner philosophischen Grundgedanken entwarf. Hierbei klingen alle groen Themen seiner spateren Philosophie an wie die naturphilosophische Grundlegung der Physik, die Entwicklung eines anticartesischen Korperbegriffs und eines neuen Substanzbegriffs, das Projekt einer Scientia generalis und dazugehorigen Charakteristik, die wissenschaftstheoretische Grundlegung der Philosophie durch eine formale Logik und ein formales Wahrheitskriterium, schlielich auch Fragen zur naturlichen Theologie und zu einer Rechtsreform und naturrechtlichen Begrundung des Rechts.
