Just as she decides to make the best of her tropical destination, she stumbles upon a murder, witnesses a kidnapping and meets the most attractive man she's ever seen.<br>Dr. Cooper Deforest is seriously attracted to this stunning woman with a razor-sharp tongue. In fact, he is having the damnedest time trying to keep his hands off Lily. But when murder, kidnapping, a drug cartel and police corruption intrude on his peaceful jungle world, Cooper wonders just what sort of person Lily is. <br>Even though their chemistry sizzles, Lily's trust issues get in the way. As much as Cooper wants this woman, he can't get over the fact that wherever Lily goes, death seems to follow...</p>",

                "description": "A classic in-depth, extremely honest first person account of grief from the loss of a child. First published in 1981, this book will help those dealing with a similar loss or those who wish to better understand and help family or friends who may be struggling with such a loss.\n\nIn his foreword, Charles Swindoll wrote, \"Stunned yet courageous, this pastor recorded his feelings, his questions, his guilt, his struggles, and even his bitterness. As you read his words, you will nod with understanding and weep with compassion. Your heart will beat heavily as you identify with his profound sends of loss ... Not since Joe Bayly's A view from the Hearse have I found myself more in agreement. To this author, grief is real; it dare not be denied or ignored. Yes, its wounds must be handled with care and given time to heal. Preserving us from pious platitudes and empty cliches, David Biebel says it straight and he says it well. Best of all, he doesn't attempt to answer all the whys. Old Joseph Parker [who said that there is a broken heart in every pew] would have appreciated David's style and content. I certainly do. So will you.\"\n\nThis is an intensely personal story of how one man, as a father and minister, came to terms with his bereavement and experienced a more mature realization of his faith. Both touching and inspiring, Jonathan: You Left Too Soon offers strength and reassurance to those who hurt, encouraging them on their journey through brokenness toward a greater sense of wholeness.",

                "description": "Welcome to the Homestead, and the second in a series of stories featuring the twins, Richard\nand Rachel, who live there with their parents, Mama and Papa. The twins are home schooled,\nand they live in the fertile and beautiful Pacific Northwest of the United States. They help their parents cultivate and care for their little farm so it produces most of the food the family needs, all year round. When they're not studying or helping with the homestead, the twins have many adventures in which they invite you to join them, like the one described in this book.\n\nHere's a little taste of it: \nBreakfast finished, and dishes cleared, the twins skipped off to complete their chores and finish packing bags for the three-day camping trip. They chatted the whole time, talking about important stuff to bring along. Richard made sure to pack his flashlight and compass, and his newest book about survival in the wild. Since he had gotten his latest book, over a week ago, Richard would read it in bed, under the covers at night with a flashlight; the book had thrilling stories of frightening encounters and fearsome attacks written by survivors. Richard figured it couldn't hurt to learn of such things and know what to do, especially when they would soon be camping in the woods. Rachel packed her miniature Bible, a wildlife guide, a first aid manual, and two pair of swim goggles, one for herself and one to share.",

                "description": "This book sets out the conditions under which the need for a new approach to the production of architecture in the twenty-first century is established, where our homes and cities are facing increasing pressures from environmental challenges that are compromising our lives and well being. Vibrant architecture embodies a new kind of architectural design practice that explores how lively materials, or 'vibrant matter', may be incorporated into our buildings to confer on them some of the properties of living things, such as movement, growth, sensitivity and self-repair. The theoretical and practical implications of how this may occur are explored through the application of a new group of materials. Characteristically, these substances possess some of the properties of living systems but may not have the full status of being truly alive. They include forms of chemical artificial life such as 'dynamic droplets' or synthetically produced soils. As complex systems, they are able to communicate directly with the natural world using a shared language of chemistry and so, negotiate their continued survival in a restless world. Vibrant architecture may create new opportunities for architectural design practice that venture beyond top-down form-finding programs, by enabling architects to co-design in partnership with human and nonhuman collectives, which result from the production of post natural landscapes. Ultimately, vibrant architecture may operate as an ecological platform for human development that augments the liveliness of our planet, rather than diminishes it.",

                "description": "Although they were not written by Kant himself, the transcripts of his lectures constitute an important source for philosophical research today. Some of the contributions presented in this volume discuss the authenticity and significance of these transcripts, for example the status of Kant's lectures on logic and anthropology, while others shed light on the historical formation of specific writings, for instance the texts on the philosophy of religion. The contributions provide new insights into Kant's philosophy, that, if looking at Kant's published writings alone, we would not be able to gain. In a number of cases, a critical analysis of Kant's lectures gives us a better understanding of his published works. Thus his lectures on metaphysics shed new light on his Critique of Pure Reason, while the lecture on natural law is a valuable source for the understanding of his published legal writings.",

                "description": "In der fruhneuzeitlichen Gelehrtenkultur herrschte ein groes Bewusstsein fur die Funktion bestimmter Textsorten und ihrer genuinen, zweckgebundenen Verwendungsweise, die sich nicht zuletzt auch an rhetorischen Traditionen orientierte. Das trifft auch auf den Bereich der Verteidigungsschriften, hier vornehmlich der Apologie und der Vindicatio, zu. Beide stehen im Bezugsrahmen gelehrter Streitigkeiten, die in jungster Zeit vermehrt in den Blick genommen wurden. Allein dominierten bisher Fragestellungen, die sich in erster Linie an Inhalten orientierten. Die Formen und je eigenen Textsorten gelehrten Streitens kamen bisher nicht genauer in den Blick. Die hier zusammengetragenen Analysen nehmen das rhetorische Erbe und die Sensibilitat der Gelehrten der Epoche der Fruhen Neuzeit fur die Verwendung bestimmter Schreibweisen zu ihrem Ausgangspunkt, um agonale Positionsbestimmungen im gelehrten Diskurs in ihren Kontexten verstandlich zu machen. Die hier versammelten Beitrage aus Philosophie, Philologie, Theologie und Geschichte zeigen erstmals, dass Verteidigungsschriften in den seltensten Fallen rein defensiv waren, vielmehr eignete ihnen ein ebenso offensives, mitunter gar aggressives Moment.",

                "name": "The Pragmatics of Quoting Now and Then",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "In examining the phenomenon of quoting from multiple angles, The Pragmatics of Quoting Now and Then offers a fresh view on the forms, functions and usage of quoting as a meta-communicative act in various forms of old (printed) and new (electronically mediated) communication, setting it apart from (seemingly) related acts like repeating or referring. Recent interest in the formal (copy-paste quoting) and ethical (quoting as plagiarizing) aspects of quoting has been gaining considerable momentum in linguistics (and other disciplines), predominantly fuelled by enormous technological progress and the impact on both the procedure of quoting itself and its appraisal in public discourse. Embracing a broad, interdisciplinary perspective, the authors pay special tribute to the inherent complementarity of both synchronic and diachronic perspectives. With contributions pinpointing the formal and functional evolution of quoting and tracing trends in linguistic variation, this volume brings together interpersonal pragmatics, sociolinguistics, historical, cognitive and text linguistics as well as cultural studies. In this way, the present title provides a more comprehensive and integral understanding of the nature of quoting.",

                "description": "English lexicography and linguistics have always shared close ties, yet the potential of cognitive linguistics for lexicography has only been hesitantly acknowledged in the literature. This is what cognitive lexicography attempts to change by using insights gained in cognitive semantic research for the development of new dictionary features. After a short survey of the history and practice of English monolingual learner lexicography, as well as an outline of the relationship between linguistics and lexicography, three new dictionary features are developed. They cover three different cognitive semantic theories as well as three different parts of the monolingual dictionary entry, each time for a new set of lexemes. Frame semantics, conceptual metaphor theory, as well as cognitive conceptions of polysemy, are used to create a new example section for agentive nouns, a new defining structure for emotion terms and a new microstructural arrangement for particle entries. Dictionary analyses on all, as well as user studies on two of the features, complement these suggestions. The monograph thus presents a new approach to lexicography that incorporates into its description of lexical items how humans perceive and conceptualise language.",

"description": "The period between 1750 and 1850 was a time when knowledge and its modes of transmission were reconsidered and reworked in fundamental ways. Social and political transformations, such as the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution, went hand in hand with in new ways of viewing, sensing, and experiencing what was perceived to be a rapidly changing world. This volume brings together a range of essays that explore the performance of knowledge in the period from 1750 to 1850, in the broadest possible sense. The essays explore a wide variety of literary, theatrical, and scientific events staged during this period, including scientific demonstrations, philosophical lectures, theatrical performances, stage design, botany primers, musical publications, staged Schiller memorials, acoustic performances, and literary declamations. These events served as vital conduits for the larger process of generating, differentiating, and circulating knowledge. By unpacking the significance of performance and performativity for the creation and circulation of knowledge in Germany during this period, the volume makes an important contribution to interdisciplinary German cultural studies, performance studies, and the history of knowledge.",

Employing an interpretative method attentive to issues of redaction and inner-biblical interpretation, MacDonald show that Ezekiel 44 is a polemical response to Isaiah 56, and not the reverse as is typically assumed. This has significant consequences for the dating of Ezekiel 44 and for its relationship to other biblical texts, especially Pentateuchal texts from Leviticus and Numbers. Since Ezekiel 44 has been a crucial chapter in understanding the historical development of the priesthood, MacDonald's arguments affect our understanding of the origins of the distinction between Levites and priests, and the claims that a Zadokite priestly sept dominated the Second Temple hierarchy.
