A dalliance with the wrong woman has put him at the center of a scandal that could bring down the next prime minister of England. Desperate to remove the threat to his peer and to himself by way of being skewered by said peer, he agrees to disappear from London life. Begrudgingly, he accepts his friends suggestion to act the part of a butler at the fellows cousins country estate.\n\nLady Isabella FitzHugh is nothing if not a practical, logical, orderly young woman. Having her lifelong butler just retire and being informed by her cousin, surely in an attempt to help, that she was to host a butler-in-training, is beyond annoying. A small, self-contained estate needs no ripples to mar the necessary smooth waters. But, when the new butler, one Easton, arrives, her home and her emotions become one stormy mess. And Isabella finds herself breaking all the rules and happily opens her heart to the chaos of love.",

                "description": "<p>For centuries after the fall of the Roman empire, the ability to write and speak pure Latin was the mark of the true scholar. But although such skill was esteemed in medieval times, the language of ancient Rome was as various as the styles of slaves and masters.<br><br>Latinity and Literary Society at Rome reaches back to the early Roman empire to examine attitudes toward latinity, reviewing the contested origins of scholarly Latin in the polemical arena of Roman literature. W. Martin Bloomer shows how that literature's reflections on correct and incorrect speech functioned as part of a wider understanding of social relations and national identity in Rome.<br><br>Bloomer's investigation begins with questions about the sociology of Latin literaturewhat interests were served by the creation of high style and how literary stylization constituted a system of social decorumand goes on to offer readings of selected texts. Through studies of works ranging from Varro's De lingua latina to the verse fables of Augustine's freeman Phaedrus to the Annals of Tacitus, Bloomer examines conflicting claims to style not simply to set true Latin against vulgarism but also to ask who is excluding whom, why, and by what means.<br><br>These texts exemplify the ways Roman literature employs representations of, and reflections on, proper and improper language to mirror the interests of specific groups who wished to maintain or establish their place in Roman society. They show how writers sought to influence the fundamental social issue of who had the power to confer legitimacy of speech and how their works used claims of linguistic propriety to reinforce the definition of \"Romanness.\"<br><br>Through Bloomer's study latinity emerges as a contested field of identity and social polemic heretofore unrecognized in classical scholarship. With its fresh interpretations of major and minor texts, Latinity and Literary Society at Rome is a literary history that significantly advances our understanding of the place of language in ancient Rome.</p>",

Inasmuch as such an assumption is no longer tenable in much of the world, it threatens the operation of our most basic legal institutions.<br><br>In this book, Keith Rosenn shows how inflation affects legal documents like contractshow it distorts credit transactions, suits for damages, and laws of taxationand he tells how current economic practices can be adapted to reduce or eliminate the impact. He explores the possibility of using a comprehensive indexation scheme for coping with inflation. Although Rosenn recognizes the deficiencies of price indexes, he considers the practical and theoretical implications of indexation. His analysis is firmly grounded in a detailed examination of the experience of countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, and Italy in adapting their legal institutions to the fact of inflation.</p>",

                "name": "A New Therapy for Politics?",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "Andrew Samuels has established an international practice as a political consultant, working with senior politicians, political parties and activist groups. His lectures and workshops on the application of 'therapy thinking' to social and political issues attract wide interest. His previous books in this area, such as The Political Psyche and Politics on the Couch, have been widely appreciated. Now, in a long-anticipated tour-de-force that is both compassionate and intellectually stimulating, this book deepens in a new and innovate style his engagement with themes such as economics, ecopsychology, leadership, aggression and violence, the role of the individual in progressive politics, and sexuality and spirituality in political contexts. The reader is encouraged to move beyond conventional professional or academic discourse by the inclusion of experiential exercises in the text. In this way, activism and analysis, public and private, therapeutic and more-than-personal are all brought together in a satisfying yet challenging synthesis.Samuels is open about the problems with trying to apply therapy thinking to discussion about pressing political, social and economic questions, and to the loss of a sense of meaning and purpose in personal and collective life. Although there is a long history in the psychotherapies of aspiration to achieve this, and therapists invited the world into their consulting rooms, the 'client' did not show up for its first session. In the book, Samuels discuss why this has been the case, accepting that there is a very bad historical record to own, ranging from Jung's anti-semitism to psychoanalytic homophobia and heteronormativity. There is also the problem of therapists' uncontrollable desire to prove their theories correct.",

                "description": "This book tells captivating stories of misadventures of two renowned theoretical physicists in the Soviet Union. The first part is devoted to Friedrich (Fritz) Houtermans, an outstanding Dutch-Austrian-German physicist who was the first to suggest that the source of stars' energy is thermonuclear fusion, and also made a number of other important contributions to cosmochemistry and geochemistry. In 1935, Houtermans, a German communist, in an attempt to save his life from Hilter's Gestapo, fled to the Soviet Union. He took up an appointment at the Kharkov Physico-Technical Institute, working there for two years with the Russian physicist Valentin P Fomin. In the Great Purge of 1937, Houtermans was arrested in December by the NKVD (Soviet Secret Police, KGB's predecessor). He was tortured, and confessed to being a Trotskyist plotter and German spy, out of fear of threats against his wife Charlotte. However, Charlotte had already escaped from the Soviet Union to Denmark, after which she went to England and finally the USA. As a result of the Hilter-Stalin Pact of 1939, Houtermans was turned over to the Gestapo in May 1940 and imprisoned in Berlin.The second part consists of two essays that narrate the life story of Yuri Golfand, one of the codiscoverers of supersymmetry, a major discovery in theoretical physics in the 20th century. In 1973, just two years after the publication of his seminal paper, he was fired from the Lebedev Physics Institute in Moscow. Because of his Jewish origin he could find no job. Under such circumstances, he applied for an exit visa to Israel, but his application was denied. Yuri Golfand became a refusnik and joined the Human rights movement, along with two other prominent physicists, Andrei Sakharov and Yuri Orlov. To earn his living, he had to do manual work, repeatedly being intimidated by KGB. Only 18 years later, shortly before the demise of the Soviet Union, did he obtain permission to leave the country, emigrating to Israel in 1990.These personal life stories of two outstanding theorists are interwined with the tragedies of the 20th century and make for compelling reading.",

                "description": "Battles, blood, and psychological collapse! A young boy is nearly burned alive in a church as steel-wielding English troops assault his town. Within these pages is the story of Thomas Ancroft, who grows up trying to be noble, but cannot shake the trauma he endured. The man responsible for the harm done to him, Admiral Constantyne, feels the wrath strike back in the way of a kidnapped daughter and a torched home. Now, all is sacrificed, fury kindled, and great seas crossed. This aging master of the sea now lives only to bring his daughter back and to drain the life out of Thomas. Always on the edge of annihilation, you will be taken along with this pseudo-hero through numerous adventures that will cause you to doubt him at times, though likely you will also be struck by him, as his companions are. Either his ability to overcome the most hopeless of obstacles is due to miracles as he claims, or is the greatest series of coincidences championed by a lunatic.",

                "description": "Up to now, there has been no complete English-language version of the Russian folktales of A. N. Afanasev. This translation is based on L. G. Barag and N. V. Novikovs edition, widely regarded as the authoritative Russian-language edition. The present edition includes commentaries to each tale as well as its international classification number. This second volume of 140 tales continues the work started in Volume I, also published by University Press of Mississippi. A third planned volume will complete the first English-language set.<br><br> The folktales of A. N. Afanasev represent the largest single collection of folktales in any European language and perhaps in the world. Widely regarded as the Russian Grimm, Afanasev collected folktales from throughout the Russian Empire in what are now regarded as the three East Slavic languages, Byelorusian, Russian, and Ukrainian. The result of his own collecting, the collecting of friends and correspondents, and in a few cases his publishing of works from earlier and forgotten collections is truly phenomenal. In his lifetime, Afanasev published more than 575 tales in his most popular and best-known work, Narodnye russkie skazki. In addition to this basic collection, he prepared a volume of Russian legends, many on religious themes; a collection of mildly obscene tales, Russkie zavetnye skazki; and voluminous writings on Slavic folk life and mythology. His works were subject to the strict censorship of ecclesiastical and state authorities that lasted until the demise of the Soviet Union in the 1990s. Overwhelmingly, his particular emendations were stylistic, while those of the censors mostly concerned content. The censored tales are generally not included in this volume.",
