                "name": "ELEMENTARY INTRODUCTION TO QUEUEING SYSTEMS, AN",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "The book aims to highlight the fundamental concepts of queueing systems. It starts with the mathematical modeling of the arrival process (input) of customers to the system. It is shown that the arrival process can be described mathematically either by the number of arrival customers in a fixed time interval, or by the interarrival time between two consecutive arrivals. In the analysis of queueing systems, the book emphasizes the importance of exponential service time of customers. With this assumption of exponential service time, the analysis can be simplified by using the birth and death process as a model. Many queueing systems can then be analyzed by choosing the proper arrival rate and service rate. This facilitates the analysis of many queueing systems.Drawing on the author's 30 years of experience in teaching and research, the book uses a simple yet effective model of thinking to illustrate the fundamental principles and rationale behind complex mathematical concepts. Explanations of key concepts are provided, while avoiding unnecessary details or extensive mathematical formulas. As a result, the text is easy to read and understand for students wishing to master the core principles of queueing theory.",

                "description": "This volume is a collection of papers that apply general equilibrium theory in order to obtain policy relevant insights on topical issues of international trade and migration. The first set of papers focuses on European integration, applying dynamic numerical general equilibrium methods to quantify the effects of geographic extension of the European Union, including the effects of Eastern enlargement of the EU on incumbent Western member countries. The second set of papers deals with the trade effects of WTO membership, with special focus on the so-called extensive country margin, where new international trading relationships are formed. The third set of papers focuses on immigration, offering a rigorous theoretical analysis of the so-called immigration surplus as well as an econometric estimation of the gains and pain that Germany has forgone by initially restricting immigration from new EU member countries after the EU's Eastern enlargement in 2004. And finally, the book contains a set of theoretical papers on the distributional effects of offshoring.",

                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "For the millions of citizens in the Arab World who came together in 2010-2011 to discover their common yearning for dignity and liberty, the real revolutions only began after the wave of protests. Understanding the Political Economy of the Arab Uprisings reassess the interests, potential and constraints of various socio-political players and their importance in the building of a constructive environment for democratic progress in the Middle East. Initiated by the Cairo-based Economic Research Forum and edited by Ishac Diwan, this invaluable volume features contributions by Middle East academics across the world. They examine the reasons behind the uprisings, how democratic transitions transpire, the role of Arab capitalism in the crises, and how the experiences of other countries such as Indonesia, Turkey and Iran, can forecast where these uprisings may lead the Middle East in the years to come.",

                "description": "In the age of e-society, handwritten signature processing is an enabling technology in a multitude of fields in the digital agenda of many countries, ranging from e-health to e-commerce, from e-government to e-justice, from e-democracy to e-banking, and smart cities. Handwritten signatures are very complex signs; they are the result of an elaborate process that depends on the psychophysical state of the signer and the conditions under which the signature apposition process occurs. Notwithstanding, recent efforts from academies and industries now make possible the integration of signature-based technologies into other standard equipment to form complete solutions that are able to support the security requirements of today's society.Advances in Digital Handwritten Signature Processing primarily provides an update on the most fascinating and valuable researches in the multifaceted field of handwritten signature analysis and processing. The chapters within also introduce and discuss critical aspects and precious opportunities related to the use of this technology, as well as highlight fundamental theoretical and applicative aspects of the field. This book contains papers by well-recognized and active researchers and scientists, as well as by engineers and commercial managers working for large international companies in the field of signature-based systems for a wide range of applications and for the development of e-society.This publication is devoted to both researchers and experts active in the field of biometrics and handwriting forensics, as well as professionals involved in the development of signature-based solutions for advanced applications in medicine, finance, commerce, banking, public and private administrations, etc. Handwritten Signature Processing may also be used as an advanced textbook by graduate students.",

The examination is contextualized within the profound transformations of the post-reform China and global political structures in the last two decades of the 20th century. Using an innovative analytical framework based on Vladimir Propp, the book focuses on how different images of China are constructed through an effective use of TV narrative strategies. In particular it details how various strands of (Western) modernity underpin major discourses about China. The book will be valuable to the understanding of how China was perceived in the West during one of the most dramatic moments in modern history.",

Using the longitudinal data of China Health and Nutrition Survey, the author finds that the access to different employment sectors is not equally distributed among Chinese workers during the market transition. And the hierarchy of employment sectors is reproduced through the procedure that assorts individual workers to different employment sectors. In addition to achieved characteristics such as human capital, ascribed characteristics such as family background and gender are important factors in understanding the procedure of social stratification in the reform era. The book will be of value to social scientists interested in the market transition of socialist societies in general and the social transformation of contemporary China in particular.",

Especially, the last decade witnessed China's rapid rise to economic wealth and superpower status vis-a-vis the severe developmental predicaments of the West (financial crises, socio-political turbulences, etc.). This book analyzes how the leading Chinese thinkers understand China's prosperity and rapid development today, and whether there is any hidden mechanism that has been playing a crucial role of forming contemporary Chinese thinkers' shared passionate endeavor of resuscitating classical Chinese ideas, and thus shows how the fervor for discovering essential characteristics of Chinese thought reveals a hidden psychological mechanism.",

An additional section for important papers outside of those programs is also included. With papers originally written in the 1970s all the way up to recent times, Ethier provides contemporary commentary for each section, referring to further sources, candid accounts on the state of international trade theory at the time and how each paper contributed to further improvements of their respective research program.",

The aim and scope of the present extended edition of the book, written after the experimental discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, is to reflect the various stages of this 30+ years search. Along with the text of the first edition of Leptons and Quarks it contains extracts from a number of books published by World Scientific and an article from On the concepts of vacuum and mass and the search for higgs available from www.worldscientific.com/worldscinet/mpla or from arxiv.org/abs/1212.1031.The book is unique in communicating the Electroweak Theory at a basic level and in connecting the concept of Lorenz invariant mass with the concept of the Extended Standard Model, which includes gravitons as the carriers of gravitational interaction.",

                "description": "This is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art, treatise on the energetic mechanics of Lagrange and Hamilton, that is, classical analytical dynamics, and its principal applications to constrained systems (contact, rolling, and servoconstraints). It is a book on advanced dynamics from a unified viewpoint, namely, the kinetic principle of virtual work, or principle of Lagrange. As such, it continues, renovates, and expands the grand tradition laid by such mechanics masters as Appell, Maggi, Whittaker, Heun, Hamel, Chetaev, Synge, Pars, Lure, Gantmacher, Neimark, and Fufaev. Many completely solved examples complement the theory, along with many problems (all of the latter with their answers and many of them with hints). Although written at an advanced level, the topics covered in this 1400-page volume (the most extensive ever written on analytical mechanics) are eminently readable and inclusive. It is of interest to engineers, physicists, and mathematicians; advanced undergraduate and graduate students and teachers; researchers and professionals; all will find this encyclopedic work an extraordinary asset; for classroom use or self-study. In this edition, corrections (of the original edition, 2002) have been incorporated.",

                "subtitle": "Mathematical Foundations of Oncology",
                "description": "The book aims to provide an introduction to mathematical models that describe the dynamics of tumor growth and the evolution of tumor cells. It can be used as a textbook for advanced undergraduate or graduate courses, and also serves as a reference book for researchers. The book has a strong evolutionary component and reflects the viewpoint that cancer can be understood rationally through a combination of mathematical and biological tools. It can be used both by mathematicians and biologists. Mathematically, the book starts with relatively simple ordinary differential equation models, and subsequently explores more complex stochastic and spatial models. Biologically, the book starts with explorations of the basic dynamics of tumor growth, including competitive interactions among cells, and subsequently moves on to the evolutionary dynamics of cancer cells, including scenarios of cancer initiation, progression, and treatment. The book finishes with a discussion of advanced topics, which describe how some of the mathematical concepts can be used to gain insights into a variety of questions, such as epigenetics, telomeres, gene therapy, and social interactions of cancer cells.",

It can be treated as a HHT user manual and a source of reference for HHT applications. The book contains the basic principle and method of HHT and various application examples, ranging from the correction of satellite orbit drifting to detection of failure of highway bridges.The thirteen chapters of the first edition are based on the presentations made at a mini-symposium at the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in 2003. Some outstanding mathematical research problems regarding HHT development are discussed in the first three chapters. The three new chapters of the second edition reflect the latest HHT development, including ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and modified EMD.The book also provides a platform for researchers to develop the HHT method further and to identify more applications.",

                "subtitle": "Proceedings of the 4th JapaneseAustralian Workshop (JARCS4)",
                "description": "A phenomenon which appears in nature, or human behavior, can sometimes be explained by saying that a certain potential function is maximized, or minimized. For example, the Hamiltonian mechanics, soapy films, size of an atom, business management, etc. In mathematics, a point where a given function attains an extreme value is called a critical point, or a singular point. The purpose of singularity theory is to explore the properties of singular points of functions and mappings.This is a volume on the proceedings of the fourth Japanese-Australian Workshop on Real and Complex Singularities held in Kobe, Japan. It consists of 11 original articles on singularities. Readers will be introduced to some important new notions for characterizations of singularities and several interesting results are delivered. In addition, current approaches to classical topics and state-of-the-art effective computational methods of invariants of singularities are also presented. This volume will be useful not only to the singularity theory specialists but also to general mathematicians.",

It devotes itself to considering some infinite-dimensional dynamical systems in atmospheric and oceanic science, especially in geophysical fluid dynamics. The subject on geophysical fluid dynamics mainly tends to focus on the dynamics of large-scale phenomena in the atmosphere and the oceans. One of the important contents in the dynamics is to study the infinite-dimensional dynamical systems of the atmospheric and oceanic dynamics. The results in the study of some partial differential equations of geophysical fluid dynamics and their corresponding infinite-dimensional dynamical systems are also given.",
