"description": "
Computational Intelligence: Concepts to Implementations provides the most complete and practical coverage of computational intelligence tools and techniques to date. This book integrates various natural and engineering disciplines to establish Computational Intelligence. This is the first comprehensive textbook on the subject, supported with lots of practical examples. It asserts that computational intelligence rests on a foundation of evolutionary computation. This refreshing view has set the book apart from other books on computational intelligence.

This book lays emphasis on practical applications and computational tools, which are very useful and important for further development of the computational intelligence field. Focusing on evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy logic, the authors have constructed an approach to thinking about and working with computational intelligence that has, in their extensive experience, proved highly effective. The book moves clearly and efficiently from concepts and paradigms to algorithms and implementation techniques by focusing, in the early chapters, on the specific con. It explores a number of key themes, including self-organization, complex adaptive systems, and emergent computation. It details the metrics and analytical tools needed to assess the performance of computational intelligence tools. The book concludes with a series of case studies that illustrate a wide range of successful applications.

This book will appeal to professional and academic researchers in computational intelligence applications, tool development, and systems.
Moves clearly and efficiently from concepts and paradigms to algorithms and implementation techniques by focusing, in the early chapters, on the specific concepts and paradigms that inform the authors' methodologies Explores a number of key themes, including self-organization, complex adaptive systems, and emergent computation Details the metrics and analytical tools needed to assess the performance of computational intelligence tools Concludes with a series of case studies that illustrate a wide range of successful applications Presents code examples in C and C++ Provides, at the end of each chapter, review questions and exercises suitable for graduate students, as well as researchers and practitioners engaged in self-study",

The development of science and technology has increased human capacity to extract resources from nature and it is only recently that industries are being held accountable for the detrimental effects the waste they produce has on the environment. Increased governmental research, regulation and corporate accountability are digging up issues pertaining to pollution control and waste treatment and environmental protection.

The traditional approach for clinical waste, agricultural waste, industrial waste, and municipal waste are depleting our natural resources. The main objective of this book is to conserve the natural resources by approaching 100 % full utilization of all types of wastes by cradle to - cradle concepts, using Industrial Ecology methodology documented with case studies. Sustainable development and environmental protection cannot be achieved without establishing the concept of industrial ecology. The main tools necessary for establishing Industrial Ecology and sustainable development will be covered in the book. The concept of industrial ecology will help the industrial system to be managed and operated more or less like a natural ecosystem hence causing as less damage as possible to the surrounding environment.
Numerous case studies allow the reader to adapt concepts according to personal interest/field Reveals innovative technologies for the conservation of natural resources The only book which provides an integrated approach for sustainable development including tools, methodology, and indicators for sustainable development",

These are the main requirements for developing quasi-static theory, which gives a basis for the non-reflective transducers in transversal bandpass filters and interdigital pulse compression filters. It is also needed for the reflective transducers used in the newer devices.
A thorough revision of a classic on surface acoustic wave filters first published in 1985 and still in print Uniquely combines easy-to-understand principles with practical design techniques for all the devices in widespread use today Complete coverage of all the latest devices which are key to mobile phones, TVs and radar systems Includes a new foreword by Sir Eric Albert Ash",

They can be used in finding suitable components for future miniature devices, and for the more exciting possibilities of novel optoelectronic applications due to bright luminescence from porous silicon, nanoparticles and nanowires. New findings from research into metal encapsulated clusters, silicon fullerenes and nanotubes have opened up a new paradigm in nanosilicon research and this could lead to large scale production of nanoparticles with control on size and shape as well as novel quasi one-dimensional structures. There are possibilities of using silicon as an optical material and in the development of a silicon laser.

In Nanosilicon, leading experts cover state-of-the-art experimental and theoretical advances in the different forms of nanosilicon. Furthermore, applications of nanosilicon to single electron transistors, as photonic material, chemical and biological sensors at molecular scale, and silicon nanowire devices are also discussed. Self-assemblies of silicon nanoforms are important for applications. These developments are also related to cage structures of silicon in clathrates. With an interesting focus on the bottlenecks in the advancement of silicon based technology, this book provides a much-needed overview of the current state of understanding of nanosilicon research.
Latest developments in nanoparticles, nanowires and nanotubes of silicon Focus on nanosilicon - a very timely subject attracting large interest Novel chapters on metal encapsulated silicon clusters and nanotubes",

                "description": "Small-scale gas turbines, known as Microturbines, represent an exciting new development in gas turbine technology. They can run in size from small, human-scale machines down to micro-sized mini-machines that can barely be seen by the naked eye. They also run a great diversity of fuel types, from various types of commercial gases to waste-generated gases. This new book by industry expert Claire Soares will fully describe the various types of microturbines, their applications, and their particular requirements for installation, maintenance and repair. It will explain how a microturbine the size of a refrigerator can power an entire school, hospital or small factory, which is particularly useful for onsite, remote installations. The book will also show how microturbines can be paired with one or more fuel cells to form a hybrid energy source, or can be teamed with any source of distributed power, such as a mall hydro-turbine or a wind turbine. Moreover, the reader will learn how microturbines can run on a variety of fuels that are far cruder than those required by most standard gas turbines; they can be made to run, for instance, using gas from a landfill or biomass source. The reader will find detailed information on costs, specifications, and maintenance and repair guidelines. Ample references and resources will provide the reader with tools for finding manufacturers and product specifications for their own particular needs. Covers major categories of microturbines, including factors common to their design, installation, operation, optimization, maintenance, and repair Invaluable guidance on market factors and economics affecting microturbines and their applications, particularly for distributed power generation Provides current case studies showing microturbines used in hybrid systems with fuel cells and other types of power generation systems",

                "description": "
Many countries are currently exploring the option to dispose of highly radioactive solid wastes deep underground in purpose built, engineered repositories. A number of surface and shallow repositories for less radioactive wastes are already in operation. One of the challenges facing the nuclear industry is to demonstrate confidently that a repository will contain wastes for so long that any releases that might take place in the future will pose no significant health or environmental risk.

One method for building confidence in the long-term future safety of a repository is to look at the physical and chemical processes which operate in natural and archaeological systems, and to draw appropriate parallels with the repository. For example, to understand why some uranium orebodies have remained isolated underground for billions of years. Such studies are called 'natural analogues'.

This book investigates the concept of geological disposal and examines the wide range of natural analogues which have been studied. Lessons learnt from studies of archaeological and natural systems can be used to improve our capabilities for assessing the future safety of a radioactive waste repository.
",
