                "name": "Carbon Capture and Storage",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) is a technology aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels during industrial and energy-related processes. CCS involves the capture, transport and long-term storage of carbon dioxide, usually in geological reservoirs deep underground that would otherwise be released to the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide capture and storage offers important possibilities for making further use of fossil fuels more compatible with climate change mitigation policies. The largest volumes of CO2 could be captured from large point sources such as from power generation, which alone accounts for about 40 per cent of total anthropogenic CO2 emissions. The development of capture technologies in the power generation sector could be particularly important in view of the projected increase in demand for electricity in fast developing countries with enormous coal reserves (IEA 2002a). Although, this prospect is promising, more research is needed to overcome several hurdles such as important costs of capture technology and the match of large capture sources with adequate geological storage sites. The book will provide a comprehensive, detailed but non-specialist overview of the wide range of technologies involved in carbon dioxide capture and sequestration. Focuses on technology rather than regulation and cost Covers both traditional and cutting edge capture technology Contains an abundance of case-studies an worked out examples Insight into CSS technical processes",

An Introduction to Trading in the Financial Markets: Market Basics is the first of four volumes, and introduces the structures, instruments, business functions, technology, regulations, and issues that commonly found in financial markets. Placing each of these elements into context, Tee Williams describes what people do to make the markets run. His descriptions apply to all financial markets, and he includes country-specific features, stories, historical facts, glossaries, and brief technical explanations that reveal individual variations and nuances. Reinforcing his insights are visual cues that guide readers through the material. While this book wont turn you into an expert broker, it will explain where brokers fit into front office, middle office, and back office operations. And that knowledge is valuable indeed. Provides easy-to-understand descriptions of all major elements of financial markets Filled with graphs and definitions that help readers learn quickly Offers an integrated context based on the author's 30 years' experience",

This volume, the third of four, investigates the interconnected nature of financial markets by examining networks, systems, and data in turn. Describing what technologies do instead of how they work, the book shows how they drive each step of the trading process. We learn why the speed and scope of financial automation are growing, and we observe the increasing importance of data in the regulatory process. Contributing to these explanations are visual cues that guide readers through the material. If knowledge comes from information, then this volume reveals much about the core of the finance industry. Explains how technologies and data make the financial markets one of the most automated industries Describes how each step in the trading process employs technology and generates information Presents major concepts with graphs and easily understood definitions",

As processes mature, and the cost of membranes continues to dramatically reduce, so their applications and use are set to expand. Process engineers need access to the latest information in this area to assist with their daily work and to help to develop and apply new and ever more efficient liquid processing solutions.</p> <p>This book covers the latest technologies and applications, with contributions from leading figures in the field. Throughout, the emphasis is on delivering solutions to practitioners. Real world case studies and data from leading organizations -- including Cargill, Lilly, Microbach, ITT -- mean this book delivers the latest solutions as well as a critical working reference to filtration and separation professionals.</p> Covers the latest technologies and applications in this fast moving bioprocessing sector Presents a wide range of case studies that ensure readers benefit from the hard-won experience of others, saving time, money and effort World class author team headed up by the Chair of Chemical Engineering at Oxford University, UK and the VP of Plant Operations and Process Technology at Cargill Corp, the food services company and largest privately owned company in the US",

This second of four volumes explores them all. After brief explanations of the activities associated with buying and selling, the book covers principals, agents, and the market venues in which they interact. Next come the instruments that they buy and sell: how are they categorized and how do they act? Concluding the volume is a discussion about major processes and the ways that they vary by market and instrument. Contributing to these explanations are visual cues that guide readers through the material. Making profitable trades might not be easy, but with the help of this book they are possible. Explains the basics of investing and trading, markets, instruments, and processes Presents major concepts with graphs and easily-understood definitions Builds upon the introduction provided by Book 1 while preparing the reader for Books 3 and 4",

Mastery begins with understanding the actors, rules, and dynamics and the ways in which they interact. This volume, the last of a 4-volume series, presents a broad perspective on key subjects such as regulation and compliance, risk and ways to mitigate it, and the directions in which trading markets might evolve. Like its predecessors, it presents alternative versions of the future: will the sell side or buy side come to dominate, for example, and how might new technologies shape global markets? Mastery of the financial markets begins with its authoritative, heavily illustrated presentation. Presents a high-level view of global financial markets, including institutions, instruments, and dynamic interactions Describes the assumptions and expectations of market participants Heavily illustrated so readers can easily understand advanced materials",

For almost 50 years these volumes present ideas and developments that are radically changing our society.</p> <p>One of the most important ideas sweeping though society today is the social networking website. Names like Wikipedia, Flickr, Second Life, Twitter, Facebook, Meetup, MySpace, LinkedIn, among others, are becoming common parlance as the youth, and a growing segment of the adult population, now view such websites as alternatives to the corner convenience store or coffee shop and critically important avenues for social interactions. In this volume we explore this phenomenon to describe the development of some of these ideas as well as developments in web technology that enable this to occur.</p> <p>This volume contains seven chapters divided into two parts. The first three chapters describe the social networking phenomenon and provide insights into the technology and influences on our culture. The last four chapters provide details of the underlying technology that allows the web to expand to include these social networking sites, as well as other new applications for information dissemination, accessing, and sharing.</p>",

                "description": "<p>Data Mining: Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques, Third Edition, offers a thorough grounding in machine learning concepts as well as practical advice on applying machine learning tools and techniques in real-world data mining situations. This highly anticipated third edition of the most acclaimed work on data mining and machine learning will teach you everything you need to know about preparing inputs, interpreting outputs, evaluating results, and the algorithmic methods at the heart of successful data mining.</p> <p>Thorough updates reflect the technical changes and modernizations that have taken place in the field since the last edition, including new material on Data Transformations, Ensemble Learning, Massive Data Sets, Multi-instance Learning, plus a new version of the popular Weka machine learning software developed by the authors. Witten, Frank, and Hall include both tried-and-true techniques of today as well as methods at the leading edge of contemporary research. </p> <p>The book is targeted at information systems practitioners, programmers, consultants, developers, information technology managers, specification writers, data analysts, data modelers, database R&D; professionals, data warehouse engineers, data mining professionals. The book will also be useful for professors and students of upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level data mining and machine learning courses who want to incorporate data mining as part of their data management knowledge base and expertise.</p> Provides a thorough grounding in machine learning concepts as well as practical advice on applying the tools and techniques to your data mining projects Offers concrete tips and techniques for performance improvement that work by transforming the input or output in machine learning methods Includes downloadable Weka software toolkit, a collection of machine learning algorithms for data mining tasksin an updated, interactive interface. Algorithms in toolkit cover: data pre-processing, classification, regression, clustering, association rules, visualization",
