"description": "Thermodynamics and Thermochemistry: Thermodynamic Tables Project is a result of a chemistry conference in 1963. The text contains various studies, lessons, and experimental data that are relevant to the field. The book is divided into two chapters; the first one includes lessons about the constituent tables, encompassing the physical constants and fixed points, vapor pressure equations, PVT surface equations, and derived properties. For each of these topics, the corresponding formula is explained. Chapter 2 highlights the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) tables and explores the table's physical constants and PVT equations, together with its relevant subtopics. The last part of the book illustrates different tables that are closely associated with the constituent and IUPAC tables. The text caters to people who are interested in studying this field of chemistry, including undergraduates and postgraduates.",

The goal is to show a precedent, and thus imbue confidence in architects so that they can approach a manufacturer with a reasonable working knowledge of what is feasible. This book contains 33 case studies of buildings which incorporate newer forms of construction technology. The buildings discussed include the Bandstand at Haarlem, Holland; Benthem and Crouwel's House at Almere, a town near Amsterdam, Holland; the Burrell Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland; Clarke Ascot House, Brisbane, Australia; the Conservatory at Kew, southwest London; and the Johnson and Johnson World Headquarters, New Brunswick, New Jersey. This book is intended to give at least some inspiration to designers wishing to improve their technical understanding of the newer building processes with which they are now involved and have the information available if they care to seek it.",

"description": "The Chemistry of Nonbenzenoid Aromatic Compounds II is a collection of plenary lectures presented at the Second International Symposium on the Chemistry of Nonbenzenoid Aromatic Compounds. Starting with a review of the synthesis and study of select heterocycles, the book includes results and developments in this area. A significant part of the reviews of nonbenzenoid aromatic compounds is the examination of annulenese that contain larger Huckel systems than benzene. The demand for better synthetic methods in the study has increased as bridged annulenes have been made for suitable models of testing theoretical concepts. Early studies on some nonbenzenoid aromatic compounds and the related problems are also discussed. A description of the syntheses of several polycyclic systems that contain potential cyclobutadiene rings follows. Studies are made on 8-oxoheptafulvene chemistry after earlier chemical and physical examination of heptafulvene and related compounds provided avenues for research. Some aspects of strained systems, [4]annulene and its Ch+adduct are reviewed in terms of usefulness when applying a theoretical guide, proving the calculations and experiments. Studies on higher membered annulenyl ions belonging to five groups are also discussed. Research chemists, students, and professors in chemistry and related fields such as organic chemistry will find this collection useful.",

Topics covered in this book include the role of nucleus and cytoplasm in microsporogenesis; the development of the pollen grain wall; the metabolism of pollen tubes; pistil-pollen interactions; and incompatibility. This monograph is comprised of 35 chapters divided into five sections. The first section explores the physiology and biochemistry of meiosis in the anther; changes in the cytoplasm and its organelles during microsporogenesis; and changes in cytoplasmic RNA and enzyme activity during the meiotic prophase in Cosmos bipinnatus. The next section is devoted to pollen development and the pollen grain wall and includes chapters that look at the role of the tapetum during microsporogenesis of angiosperms; dictyosome development during microsporogenesis in Canna generalis; and pollen grain and sperm cell ultrastructure in Beta. The remaining sections discuss the metabolism of pollen and pollen tubes; the interactions between pollen and pistil; and pollen size and incompatibility in Nicotiana. This text will be a valuable resource for plant physiologists.",

The papers explore the nature of metal-ammonia solutions and cover topics ranging from the dilemma of metal-ammonia models to the magnetic properties of metal-ammonia solutions, the reactions of such solutions, and solid metal-ammonia compounds. This monograph is comprised of 39 chapters and begins with an overview of models for the concentration dependence of the properties of dilute metal-ammonia solutions. The discussion then turns to a continuous dielectric model for the solvated dielectron in dielectric media; elementary electronic excitations in insulating liquids; and magnetic properties of metal-ammonia solutions. The chapters that follow focus on the kinetics of the reaction between sodium and ethanol in liquid ammonia; electrons trapped in solids; metal-nonmetal transition and phase separation; and optical spectra of alkali metal-ammonia solutions. This text will be a valuable resource for chemists and chemistry students.",

The tables in this compilation include the values of parallel resistance and series capacitance, potential dividers, time constants, capacitor and inductor reactances, common emitter amplifier stages, transistor astable and monostable circuits, and Schmitt trigger circuits. This book produces a kind of ready reckoner for transistor circuit design that would reduce the time spent on the development of d.c. and low frequency transistor circuits. The properties of a range of rudimentary circuit groups and significant output properties presented in tabular form are also covered. This publication is intended for transistor circuit designers and students in need of a large choice of possible circuit groups with tabulated output properties.",

The book describes the structure and biosynthesis of the glycoproteins in relation to known or postulated functions in membranes. The text opens with an introduction and a topic on detection and distribution of membrane glycoproteins. The book then notes that the isolation of membrane glycoproteins brought by the progress in research and technology of membrane solubilization and purification of the soluble components is now possible. Discussion is also directed to glycoproteins as being integral components of intracellular membranes, and not just located on cell surfaces. Through the structural analysis of glycoproteins produced by the secretory glands, analysis of human blood group antigens is available. Likewise, discoveries are made, explaining that lectins are useful reagents in detecting the type and numbers of glycoproteins found on cellular members. Lectins are likewise being widely used in tests for carbohydrate-containing substances in membrane-mediated processes. The metabolism, growth control, and cell surface reactions of membrane glycoproteins are also explained. The book can serve as a guide for biologists, chemists, biochemists, and academicians interested in the study of membranes or glycoproteins.",

This second volume offers an interpretation of the problems that divergence poses for the European Community in a number of key sectors, from the perspective of a political economist. This book begins with a discussion of the concepts of convergence and divergence followed by an explanation of the methodology adopted in this book. The remaining chapters are organized into two parts. The chapters in Part I examine the attitudes of the major EEC member states to the convergence/divergence issue and what the terms mean for each of them. This part also attempts to relate these positions to the concerns and interests of the countries involved. The chapters in Part II analyze the impact of economic divergence on community policies.",

The first chapter of the text deals with studies on the definition of the cellular pathways of transport. Chapter 2 considers how the mobility of solutes can be measured and the range of chemical species which are moved in xylem and phloem. The next chapter discusses the concepts of velocity and rate. The rest of the book is devoted to the characteristics of phloem transport and the ultrastructure of sieve elements, including such topics as the control of movement, solute-loading and -unloading mechanisms, the dependence of transport upon metabolic energy, bidirectional movement and water movement in phloem. Finally an account is given of the movement of endogenous growth regulators and a brief assessment of 'hormone-directed' transport. Botanists will find the book very interesting and informative.",

The papers explore developments in numerical and experimental methods used in tribology and cover topics ranging from ferrography and rheology to bearings and bearing dynamics, hydrodynamics, contact phenomena, and plasticity. The papers are organized into 13 sessions. The first two papers examine the use of ferrography in the analysis of non-ferrous particles as well as some of the methods of obtaining approximate numerical solutions to boundary-value problems that arise in elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The next session is concerned with rheology and contains papers that describe numerical solutions for power law fluids as applied to slider bearings; grease lubricated finite length bearings; and the use of the ball bearing as rheological test device. The papers that follow discuss bearings and their dynamics, oil films on lubricated surfaces, hydrodynamic lubrication, and finite element analysis of transient elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The final session considers plastic deformation, two body abrasion processes, and micropitting and asperity deformation. This monograph will appeal to tribologists.",

Topics covered in this book include material properties and material structure to selection criteria; casting technology and powder metallurgy; the economics of forming by machining processes; and factors affecting manufacturing accuracy. This monograph is comprised of 12 chapters and begins by explaining the application of a systematic working plan for materials selection, with emphasis on the use of test data and decision taking. The chapters that follow deal with the basic strength and property problem for metals and how forming methods, with the help of subsequent treatments, can be chosen to satisfy a particular specification. A review of non-metals such as plastics precedes the final chapters that are specifically orientated to bearing materials and lubricants. In order to provide a satisfactory coverage for these transmission components, the influence of design fundamentals on material and process selection is discussed along with alternative design methods. This text will be a valuable resource for students and practitioners in the fields of materials science, physics, chemistry, engineering, and metallurgy.",

"description": "Plasma Chemistry is a collection of papers dealing with chemi-ionization kinetics, elementary chemical processes, kinetics in a non-equilibrium orquasi-equilibrium plasma, and heterogeneous reactions in plasmas of moderate pressure. Several papers discuss spectrometric plasma diagnostics, organic syntheses under plasma conditions, and the survival of plasma chemistry. One paper reviews chemi-ionization reactions, including reactions involving an electronically excited collision partner in which Penning ionization comparisons can be made. The paper also shows that observations made on noble gas metastables do not in apply to reactions of other species. Another paper analyzes the mechanism of plasma chemical reactions occurring under electron impact and through electronic-vibrational excited states. In these states, mutual influence of vibrational relaxation and dissociation becomes significant under low temperature plasma conditions. One paper discusses plasma techniques that have been applied to carry out various types of isomerizations or eliminations with high yields. The paper also shows the possibility of generating reactive species (atoms, radicals, carbenes) by these methods. The collection can prove useful for researchers, technicians, or scientists whose works involve organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and other related fields of chemistry, such as physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry.",

This book is an updated version of the first eight chapters of Aspects of River Pollution (first published early in 1957). Owing to the rapid development of the subject and the ever-increasing amount of literature devoted to it, some sections have been virtually rewritten, much new matter has been added, and minor alterations made throughout the text. This book begins with a review of the long history of river pollution, which can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Separate chapters deal with legal aspects of river pollution; the nature and effects of river pollution; the causes of river pollution; and uses of river water. Subsequent chapters cover the biochemical and physicochemical aspects of river pollution; the impact of river pollution on fishes; and biological aspects of river pollution.",

"description": "Instrument Technology, Volume 3: Telemetering and Automatic Control deals with advances in telemetering instruments used in automatic control of industrial processes. The focus is on instruments used to transmit to a control room an indication of the value of a measured variable, and on instruments and mechanisms used to control process variables. The basic physical principles are discussed and the actual instruments are classified according to the principle upon which they are based. This volume consists of two chapters and begins with an overview of telemetering and pneumatic methods of telemetering. Electrical telemetering systems are described in terms of telemetering by variation of an electrical quantity, balanced bridge systems, and position systems. The second chapter discusses the theory of automatic control and illustrates the automation of temperature control in furnaces. The construction and operation of some of the simple, self-acting process controllers are explained and the more elaborate controllers are described. This monograph will be useful to students and those involved in the craft and science of instrumentation.",

"description": "Economic Analysis in Historical Perspective offers a wide discussion on economics and its history. One of the books main principles is to place the several major areas of economic analysis in historical perspective. The books first topic is about monetary economics; it includes subtopics such as concepts of money, supply and demand of money, monetary control, and rate of interest. The next chapter highlights the economics of welfare, including its nature, modern issues, classical paradigm, and advancements. In Chapter 4, the main topics are public finance, taxes, and the governments role in all of it. This chapter also elaborates on public expenditure, taxation, and income redistribution. In the last remaining chapters, the discussion circles around the topics relevant theories, metrics, and statistics. The text serves as a valuable reference to undergraduates or postgraduates of economics.",

This book is divided into six parts. Part I contains the purpose and outline of the study, while Part II discusses the economic aspects of the major categories of taxes used in most developing countries. The fiscal history and categorical breakdown of the tax profiles of 16 Middle Eastern countries are reviewed in Part III. Part IV analyzes the literature on econometric models that explain differences among countries in tax effort. In Part V, the differences in relative tax efforts across 16 countries with considerations in Islamic history, culture, and natural resource endowment are elaborated. The last part summarizes the entire study. This publication is a good reference for economists and specialists concerned with the taxation and tax policies in the Middle East.",

"description": "Uranium and Nuclear Energy: 1982 compiles and summarizes papers presented at the Seventh International Symposium by The Uranium Institute held in London on September 1-3, 1982. This book consists of six main topics: nuclear power and energy policy, uranium supply and demand, nuclear power economics and finance, market stability, government policy including non-proliferation, and communications with the public. This compilation specifically discusses Japan's energy strategy and significance of nuclear energy; electrification, economic growth and uranium power; and uranium equation in 1982. The utility procurement policies in the USA, nuclear power for the oil-exporting countries, and past attempts to stabilize other commodity markets are also elaborated. This text likewise covers nuclear energy in the twilight of the oil era and public knowledge of nuclear power. This publication is suitable for economists, chemists, geologists, and researchers interested in uranium and nuclear energy.",
