                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "Thermal Stress Analyses deals with both elastic and plastic thermal stresses produced from large variations in temperature and thermal expansion in materials whose properties are time-independent. This book is composed of eight chapters. The opening chapter illustrates the general three-dimensional thermoelastic problem, which requires the determination of stress, strains and displacements, when the body forces and boundary conditions are known while the next chapter demonstrate a simpler, two-dimensional formulation involving plane strain and plane stress. The succeeding five chapters describe thermal stresses in various structures, including in thin plates, beams, circular cylinders, and shells. The closing chapters consider the mechanism of thermal buckling and sundry design problems. This book is of value to mechanical engineers, and to mechanical engineering teachers and students.",

Other chapters consider the infrared spectrum of a mixture of N2O3 and N2O4, which has been studied in the liquid phase from 2 to 25 and in the solid phase from 2 to 35 , both at low temperatures. The final chapter describes the instrument developed for the measurement of rotatory dispersion and discusses some of the results obtained in the study of the complexes. This book is a valuable resource for chemists.",

This book discusses the general form of the law of fluid motion, relationship between pressure and wind, production of vortex filaments, and conduction of vorticity by viscosity. The flow at moderate Reynolds numbers, turbulence in a stably stratified fluid, natural exploitation of atmospheric thermals, and plumes in turbulent crosswinds are also elaborated. This text likewise considers the waves produced by thermals, transformation of thin layer clouds, method of small perturbations, and dangers of extra-polation. This publication is suitable for mathematicians and experimentalists in natural aerodynamical research, but is also valuable to aviators, engineers, geographers, and meteorologists.",

                "description": "Connectionist Models contains the proceedings of the 1990 Connectionist Models Summer School held at the University of California at San Diego. The summer school provided a forum for students and faculty to assess the state of the art with regards to connectionist modeling. Topics covered range from theoretical analysis of networks to empirical investigations of learning algorithms; speech and image processing; cognitive psychology; computational neuroscience; and VLSI design. Comprised of 40 chapters, this book begins with an introduction to mean field, Boltzmann, and Hopfield networks, focusing on deterministic Boltzmann learning in networks with asymmetric connectivity; contrastive Hebbian learning in the continuous Hopfield model; and energy minimization and the satisfiability of propositional logic. Mean field networks that learn to discriminate temporally distorted strings are described. The next sections are devoted to reinforcement learning and genetic learning, along with temporal processing and modularity. Cognitive modeling and symbol processing as well as VLSI implementation are also discussed. This monograph will be of interest to both students and academicians concerned with connectionist modeling.",

This book is divided into 14 chapters. The first four chapters provide background information and general principles applicable to all types of calorimetry of non-reacting systems. The remaining 10 chapters deal with specific types of calorimetry. Most of the types of calorimetry treated are developed over a considerable period and brought to a relatively sophisticated state. For such calorimetry, the approach adopted is to give detailed accounts of a few examples of apparatus and techniques representative of the best current practice in the field. For the few types of calorimetry, a general review of the field was considered more appropriate. This book will prove useful to thermochemists, engineers, and experimentalists.",

                "description": "Introduction to Mechanisms of Hormone Action considers the mechanisms of hormone action on cellular and genetic level. This book is composed of nine chapters that cover some basic aspects of cell structure and function. The opening chapter presents a brief introduction to the chemical nature and sources of local and general hormones, as well as the multicellular organization and control in cells. The succeeding chapters are devoted to the mechanisms of action of some hormones in the cell membrane, including acetylcholine, insulin, and adrenaline. Other chapters are concerned with the hormones acting at the genetic level, such as cortisone, sex steroids, and ecdysone. The final chapter discusses the action of growth hormones on ribosomal translation of mRNA. This book is of value to endocrinologists, cell biologists, and geneticists.",

                "description": "Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 23: Sunspot Magnetic Fields for the I.G.Y. provides geophysical data analysis and daily maps for observation of sunspot magnetic fields activity. The data and maps are prepared at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. This book specifically presents the catalogue of strengths and polarities of the magnetic fields of sunspots observed by six observatories during the IGY. These data are presented in the form of 533 daily maps containing some mean values of the field strengths measured at these observatories. The system of the catalogue is derived in two successive approximations. As the first approximation, simple means (with equal weights) are calculated from the observed field strengths of different observatories. Mount Wilson observations are reduced first for the deviation due to the blending effect. To derive the field strengths in the second approximation, the calculation of systematic errors for each observatory by estimates of deviations from the simple means (with equal weights) and the calculation of weighted factors for each observatory by evaluations of mean dispersion for this observatory are made. This book is of value to geophysicists.",

                "description": "Principles of Semantic Networks: Explorations in the Representation of Knowledge provides information pertinent to the theory and applications of semantic networks. This book deals with issues in knowledge representation, which discusses theoretical topics independent of particular implementations. Organized into three parts encompassing 19 chapters, this book begins with an overview of semantic network structure for representing knowledge as a pattern of interconnected nodes and arcs. This text then analyzes the concepts of subsumption and taxonomy and synthesizes a framework that integrates many previous approaches and goes beyond them to provide an account of abstract and partially defines concepts. Other chapters consider formal analyses, which treat the methods of reasoning with semantic networks and their computational complexity. This book discusses as well encoding linguistic knowledge. The final chapter deals with a formal approach to knowledge representation that builds on ideas originating outside the artificial intelligence literature in research on foundations for programming languages. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians.",

The landmarks used are the British Pharmacopoeia, the British Pharmaceutical Codex published in September 1934, and clinical records selected from the literature. Comprised of two chapters, this book begins with an introduction to endocrine therapy, focusing on the need for clinicians to properly assess the clinical potency of the remedies they use based on considerations such as whether they clearly recognize in their patient a hormonic lack, or whether the preparation is smoothly active when administered by the route they propose. The second chapter deals with various endocrine preparations, including commercial preparations of thyroid; ovarian and pituitary hormones; stomach; pancreas; bone marrow; hemoglobin; and pineal, mammary, lymphatic, and prostate glands. This monograph is intended for clinicians interested in the therapeutic uses of enzymes and hormones.",

                "description": "Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Data and Knowledge Bases: Improving Usability and Responsiveness compiles papers presented at the Third International Conference on Data and Knowledge Bases held in Jerusalem, Israel on June 28-30, 1988. This book discusses the management system for graph-like documents, selection of processing strategies for different recursive queries, and supporting concurrent access to facts in logic programs. The design considerations for a Prolog database engine, experience with the domain algebra, and two level transaction management in a multiprocessor database machine are also described. This publication likewise covers the non-deterministic choice in Datalog and locally balanced compact Trie Hashing. This compilation is a good source for researchers and specialists of disciplines related to computer science.",
