"name": "Cutaneous Innervation",
                "subtitle": "Proceedings of the Brown University Symposium on the Biology of Skin, 1959",
                "description": "Advances in Biology of Skin, Vol. I: Cutaneous Innervation focuses on the biology of skin, including the chemistry of the ground substance of the dermis to the biology of sebaceous glands. The selection first offers information on the pattern of cutaneous innervation of the human hand, foot, and breast and similarities in cutaneous nerve end-organs. Discussions focus on the methods of study, observations, histochemical reactions, and function of end-organs. The text then examines the autonomic innervation of the skin, cholinesterases in the cutaneous nerves of man, and the relation of nerve fiber size to modality of sensation. The manuscript ponders on the central paths of the afferent impulses from skin that arouse sensation and studies related to the mechanism of common sensibility, including materials and methods, anatomical and physiological observations, and interpretation of observations. The publication also takes a look at the structures and processes involved in the sensation of itch and the pathophysiology of itch sensation. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in the biology of skin.",

                "description": "Quantum Electrodynamics focuses on the formulation of quantum electrodynamics (QED) in its most general and most abstract form: relativistic quantum field theory. It describes QED as a program, rather than a closed theory, that rests on the theory of the quantum Maxwellian field interacting with given (external) classical sources of radiation and on the relativistic quantum mechanics of electrons interacting with a given (external) classical electromagnetic field. Comprised of eight chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the fundamental principles of quantum theory formulated in a general, abstract fashion. The following chapters consider non-relativistic quantum mechanics; the theory of the electromagnetic field interacting with given sources of radiation; the quantum mechanics of particles; and the relativistic quantum mechanics of mutually non-interacting electrons moving in a given electromagnetic field. The formulation of QED is then described, paying particular attention to perturbation theory and Feynman diagrams and electron-photon processes. The final two chapters deal with renormalization theory and applications of QED. This book is addressed to readers who are familiar with quantum mechanics and classical electrodynamics at the level of university courses.",

This book emerged from an introductory course of 30 lectures on the subject given to first-year graduate students at the University of Liverpool. The opening chapter deals with pertinent terminologies in elementary particle physics. The succeeding three chapters cover the concepts of transition amplitudes, probabilities, relativistic wave equations and fields, and the interaction amplitude. The discussion then shifts to tests of electromagnetic interactions, particularly the tests of quantum electrodynamics and electromagnetic form factors. The final two chapters describe the invariance properties and problems in weak and strong interactions. This book is of value to graduate elementary particle physics teachers and students.",

                "description": "Transistors covers the main thread of transistor development. This book is organized into 2 parts encompassing 19, and starts with an overview of the semi-conductor physics pertinent to the understanding of transistors, as well as features and applications of the point contact devices and junction devices. The subsequent part deals with the modulation of conductance of thin films of conductors by surface charges, the metal-semi conductor, and the semi-conductor triode. These topics are followed by discussions on the nature of the forward current, physical principles in transistor, the hole injection in transistor, and the double-surface transistor in which the emitter and collector contacts bear on the two opposite faces of a thin wedge or slab of semiconductor. Other papers describe the effects of electrical forming on the rectifying barrier, the junction in semiconductors and transistors, the theory of Alpha for diffused junction transistors, and a high frequency diffused transistor. The last chapters consider unipolar, analog, and thin film transistors This book will be of value to physicists and researchers in the allied fields.",

This book is composed of nineteen chapters, and begins with the mechanism of tissue homeostasis in adult mammals and the kinetics of epidermal reaction to carcinogenic agents and other skin irritants. The succeeding chapters deal with the growth promoting effects of tumors on tissues, the reaction pattern distinctions between normal and neoplastic epithelium, and some biological implications of chemical carcinogenesis. Considerable chapters are devoted to various carcinogens, including hydrocarbons, viruses, androgens, and estrogens. Other chapters consider the physicochemical mechanisms of acceleration of skin carcinogenesis and experimental observations of environmental carcinogenesis. The mechanisms of skin cancer induction due to ultraviolet radiation, as well as arsenic induced tumors are examined. The concluding chapters describe some forms of skin tumors, such as adnexal tumors and basal cell epithelioma. This book will prove useful to oncologists and researchers in the field of carcinogenesis.",

                "description": "Dimensional Analysis and Group Theory in Astrophysics describes how dimensional analysis, refined by mathematical regularity hypotheses, can be applied to purely qualitative physical assumptions. The book focuses on the continuous spectral of the stars and the mass-luminosity relationship. The text discusses the technique of dimensional analysis, covering both relativistic phenomena and the stellar systems. The book also explains the fundamental conclusion of dimensional analysis, wherein the unknown functions shall be given certain specified forms. The Wien and Stefan-Boltzmann Laws can be significant in the systematic application of dimensional analysis to the physics of a single star. The text also discusses group-theoretical reduction of ordinary differential equations and the reductions of the differential equations of stellar structure. The structure of a stellar envelope requires three hypotheses: (1) thermo-nuclear reactions as source of energy of stellar; (2) thermo-nuclear reactions occur at the star's core; and (3) that an envelope surrounding the core exists where no radiation is generated. To complete the model of a star, the investigator should have further assumptions such as the pressure is made-up of gas, radiation, or both. The book can prove helpful for astronomers, astro-physicists, cosmologists, and students of general physics.",

Economics-driven software development can increase quality, productivity, and profitability, but comprehensive knowledge is needed to understand the architectural challenges involved in dealing with the development of large, architecturally challenging systems in an economic way.

This book covers how to apply economic considerations during the software architecting activities of a project. Architecture-centric approaches to development and systematic evolution, where managing complexity, cost reduction, risk mitigation, evolvability, strategic planning and long-term value creation are among the major drivers for adopting such approaches. It assists the objective assessment of the lifetime costs and benefits of evolving systems, and the identification of legacy situations, where architecture or a component is indispensable but can no longer be evolved to meet changing needs at economic cost. Such consideration will form the scientific foundation for reasoning about the economics of nonfunctional requirements in the context of architectures and architecting.
Familiarizes readers with essential considerations in economic-informed and value-driven software design and analysis Introduces techniques for making value-based software architecting decisions Provides readers a better understanding of the methods of economics-driven architecting",

                "description": "Recent Progress in Microcalorimetry focuses on the methodologies, processes, and approaches involved in microcalorimetry, as well as heat flow, temperature constancy, and chemistry of alumina and cements. The selection first offers information on the different types of calorimeters; measurement of the heat flow between the calorimeter and jacket boundaries by means of a thermoelectric pile; and constructional details of the microcalorimeter. Discussions focus on classification of calorimeters, use of thermoelectric piles as thermometers, correct measurement of heat flow from a calorimeter container, and temperature constancy of the external boundary. The text then explores theory and manipulation of the apparatus and calibration of the microcalorimeter experimental determination of the constants of the apparatus. The manuscript examines sensitivity, reproducibility, and precision of the microcalorimeter, including reproducibility of the apparatus and precision of microcalorimetric measurements. The book also takes a look at thermochemical measurements, microcalorimetry of adsorption processes, microcalorimetric studies on the chemistry of alumina, and microcalorimetry applied to the chemistry of cements. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in the advancements in microcalorimetry.",
