                "description": "Analytic Properties of Automorphic L-Functions is a three-chapter text that covers considerable research works on the automorphic L-functions attached by Langlands to reductive algebraic groups. Chapter I focuses on the analysis of Jacquet-Langlands methods and the Einstein series and Langlands so-called Euler products. This chapter explains how local and global zeta-integrals are used to prove the analytic continuation and functional equations of the automorphic L-functions attached to GL(2). Chapter II deals with the developments and refinements of the zeta-inetgrals for GL(n). Chapter III describes the results for the L-functions L (s, ?, r), which are considered in the constant terms of Einstein series for some quasisplit reductive group. This book will be of value to undergraduate and graduate mathematics students.",

                "description": "Glaciated Coasts is a collection of articles that deals with shoreline morphologies of glaciated coasts and the processes that formed these coastlines in North America. This book examines nonsandy shorelines and covers a range of geologic and geographic coastal settings in a northern-southern order. This text investigates and compares the glaciated northern shorelines. These shorelines north of the glacial limit are mostly of the primary form in different stages of modification by marine agents. Shorelines are associated with embayments; baymouth barriers in turn enclose embayments. This book describes beaches as having coarse or mixed sediment populations. Most beaches worldwide have gravel clasts that have been rounded and sorted by marine processes. In the southeastern coast of Alaska, active tectonics on a mountainous shoreline is evident. The region also shows emergent and submerging shorelines with a glacial imprint undergoing formation by modern processes. This book also gives examples of gravel beach environments in various coastal settings. This book can prove useful for students of meteorology, oceanography as well as to marine ecologists and biologists. It can also benefit readers whose interest lie with coastal environment or with the general earth sciences.",

                "description": "Social Organization of an Urban Grants Economy: A Study of Business Philanthropy and Nonprofit Organizations explains the elites, corporate wealth, and human service organizations as players in the urban grants economy. The focus of study is the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The book discusses social institutions that support an economy of donative transfers, and how these institutions influence who gives, who gets, and who gives to whom. Emphasis is on the belief system that has influence over corporate contributions, boundary-spanning agency roles that have an active role in reducing transactional costs, and selective incentives that have been used to elicit participation. The text also analyzes the volume of corporate contributions in relation to the market position held by the firm and the social position of the executives in the community. Each firm has different rationalizations for its contributions. The role of the agencies has also developed to overcome some uncertainties present in the corporation's contributing to nonprofits organizations. The text focuses on the production of collective goods, the peer-group which ensures participation in the collective enterprise, the institutionalization and socialization of values, as well as, the interaction of various agency roles. The book can prove valuable for social scientists, for heads of non-profit organizations, for officials of social and welfare departments of local governments, or for political scientists, economists, and historians.",

                "name": "The Economics of Housing Vouchers",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "The Economics of Housing Vouchers is a seven-chapter text that examines the housing choices of low-income families in two metropolitan areas, namely, Phoenix and Pittsburgh. Some of these households are offered a novel kind of housing subsidy, including a housing allowance or housing voucher, in an experimental framework designed to test this approach to demand-side housing assistance. Chapter 1 presents an overview of U.S. housing programs and the dimensions of the U.S. housing problem. Chapter 2 provides a simple microeconomic model that conceptualizes household behavior, as well as a summary of some of the extant evidence on housing demand. This chapter also estimates the housing demand models for the low-income population in the Demand Experiment, using housing expenditures to measure housing. Chapter 3 applies a hedonic index of housing services that abstracts from particular characteristics of the household or landlord that may affect rent and attempts to measure housing in a more objective manner. Chapter 4 describes a model of household behavior that leads to the methodology for estimating experimental effects. Chapter 5 repeats the analysis for Minimum Rent households, while Chapter 6 examines the effect of both kinds of Housing Gap allowance payment on the consumption of housing services. Lastly, Chapter 7 focuses on the implications of the experimental findings for housing policy. This chapter compares a housing allowance strategy with two other approaches, namely, a pure income-transfer approach and a construction-oriented approach. This book is of value to workers in housing policy, including economists, regional and other social scientists in academia, housing analysts, the Congress, housing lobby groups, and state and local government housing officials.",

                "description": "Perspectives in Urban Entomology is a collection of papers presented at the \"Ecology and Management of Insect Populations in Urban Environments\" held in Washington, D.C. in 1976. This collection deals with urban entomology with emphasis on insects, insect-plant relationships, and arthropods in the urban environments. One paper examines the causes why certain species manage to survive in an urban environment while others do not. The book cites one examplethe Rothamsted insect surveyand analyzes the pressures of development in the surrounding land area. One paper addresses the educational and esthetic value of an insect-plant relationship in an ever expanding development of urban spaces. Another paper shows the value and benefit of a scientific investment in urban agriculturedefined as small-scale agriculture in urban areasas contributing to food crops. Some papers also examine the use of insecticides and technology transfer in the management of urban pest control. This book will be valuable for entomologists, urban planners and developers, environmentalists, and for general readers residing in metropolitan areas.",

This collection is a reference guide to the analysis of behavioral effects of other agents such as those produced by radiation, hypoxia. or thermal stress. One paper reviews the effects of material or corpuscular radiations and electromagnetic radiations that even low doses occurring during the prenatal stage can result in permanent behavioral deficits. Another paper notes that any hazards resulting from the increasing use of microwave generating devices should be investigated as the possibility of such subtle hazards can affect learning, emotional, and personality behaviors. One paper analyzes the chronic effects of thermal stress on behavior, as well as those of convulsants (strychnine) and general stimulants (caffeine). The book also reviews the effects of sympathomimetic amines on emotional behavior, sleep, activity, food intake, and temperature regulation. This compendium can prove beneficial for pharmacologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, students, and professors in related disciplines.",

This book discusses the progress occurring in T-cell immunity research. One paper discusses the effects of two interaction clones of T-cells that can define the T-cell immunoregulatory network. Another paper discusses the relationship between connectivity and tolerance of the immune network. This paper then suggests the possibility that autoimmunity arises because self-reactive clones are inadequately connected to the network. Another paper reviews the cell-mediated responses in the synovial fluids, as well as the interaction of rheumatoid arthritis synovial fluid dendritic cells and T lymphocytes. The book also examines why attempts for protective immunity to the HIV virus have not been successful. One article then discusses the goals of immunologic intervention in autoimmune disease by using an approach involving the cellular and cytokine targets and their deployment. This text can prove significant for scientists in the field of pharmacology, cellular biology, and researchers in the field of immunology and infectious diseases.",

                "description": "The Economic Theory of Price Indices: Two Essays on the Effects of Taste, Quality, and Technological Change is concerned with the effects of consumer taste, product quality, and technological change on price indices. Special attention is paid on technological change in the simple two-sector production model of Rybczynski and Uzawa. The effects of the general case of changing factor supplies and factor-augmenting change on the real national output deflator are also examined. Comprised of two essays, this book begins with an analysis of the pure theory of the true cost-of-living index, which may be considered as an idealization of indices like the consumer price index and others of that type. The essay explores how the true cost-of-living index is affected by changes in consumer taste, quality changes in purchased goods, and the introduction of new goods into the market place. The second essay deals with the pure theory of the national output deflator and provides a foundation for the measurement of real national output (or product). It shows that the usual inequalities relating Paasche and Laspeyres to the true index are reversed (from what they are in cost-of-living theory) for the case of production. It also assesses the implications of changing production possibilities caused by technological change or a change in factor supplies. This monograph will be a useful resource for mathematicians, economists, and others interested in economic theory and mathematical economics.",

                "description": "Metabolic Conjugation and Metabolic Hydrolysis, Volume I is a comprehensive account of the main conjugation mechanisms and hydrolytic reactions. Topics covered range from the metabolic conjugates of steroids and N-hydroxy compounds to the effects of conjugated steroids on enzymes. The glucuronic acid pathway is also discussed, along with sulfoconjugation and sulfohydrolysis. Comprised of eight chapters, this volume first looks at the history of conjugation mechanisms before proceeding to developments in metabolic conjugations. The isolation, recognition, enzymic formation and hydrolysis, and the possible significance of steroid N-acetylglucosaminides and glucosides are considered. The book also examines the mechanisms involved in the enzymic formation of N-hydroxy compounds; the pathways by which N-hydroxy compounds may be further metabolized in vivo; and the chemical properties of conjugates of N-hydroxy compounds, particularly as these properties are related to the generation of reactive cations or free radicals in vivo. The possible role of conjugates of N-hydroxy compounds in the mechanism of carcinogenesis by aromatic amines and their N-acyl derivatives is also analyzed. Finally, glycoprotein and mucopolysaccharide hydrolysis and the role of hydrolases in cellular death are described. This monograph will be a useful resource for biologists, biochemists, physiologists, and pharmacologists.",

Biochemical mechanisms in methyl group transfer are also discussed, along with the bilirubin conjugates of the human bile. Comprised of eight chapters, this volume first looks at the biosynthesis of animal glycoproteins before turning to an analysis of the metabolism of the conjugates of steroid hormones. The reader is then introduced to the genetic mechanisms that regulate acid hydrolases; control of metabolic hydrolysis in the lysosome-vacuolar apparatus; and the biochemical mechanisms underlying methyl group transfer. The final chapter is devoted to membrane phosphohydrolases, with emphasis on certain common features of membrane enzymes or of enzymes associated with membranes. Membrane transferases and hydrolases are also considered, including adenosine triphosphatase and adenyl cyclase. This book will be a useful resource for biologists, biochemists, physiologists, and pharmacologists.",

                "description": "Applied Time Series Analysis contains the proceedings of the First Applied Time Series Symposium held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on May 14-15, 1976. The symposium provided a forum for reviewing various applications of time series analysis and covered topics ranging from nonlinear time series modeling and G-spectral estimation to multivariate autoregression estimation using residuals. Adaptive processing of seismic data and the application of homomorphic filtering to seismic data processing are also discussed. Comprised of 10 chapters, this book begins by describing the application of parametric models to the analysis and control of time series using some numerical examples. The reader is then introduced to nonlinear time series modeling; two-dimensional recursive filtering in theory and practice; and spectral estimators. Waves propagating in random media as statistical time series are also considered. The book concludes with a chapter that illustrates how the intensity of a Poisson process is estimated, with emphasis on a time series approach to the fixed signal case, invariant testing, and spline estimation. This monograph will be a useful resource for students and practitioners in the fields of mathematics and statistics, electrical engineering, and computer science.",

This collection deals with the exchange of ideas and setting directions in research, particularly in pattern-recognition-, image-processing-, and computer-related issues. The papers discuss the usefulness of computer systems in geographical data processing, as well as the viability of scan digitization resulting from improvements in line thinning and vectorization. Automated spatial data integration can also be helpful in analyzing spatial data, data collection, capture methods, and data characteristics. Another paper addresses the application of the 8-point chain-encoded lineal map data to define more accurate algorithms found in many geographical and medical imagery. One paper considers how the same data used in monochromatic images can be realized for full colored, textured, realist terrain scenes. This book can be a valuable reference for workers involved in areas of geography, computer imaging, cartography, computer graphics, and remote sensing.",

                "description": "Measles Virus and Its Biology deals with the biological and clinical problems of the viral disease, measles. This book also describes the behavior of the measles virus in terms of its immunological, biochemical, or molecular-biological aspects. The authors review the epidemiology and pathogenesis of measles and discuss how the virus flourishes and mobilizes in the human body through a close association with leukocytes and lymphoid organs. Biological characters and genetic markers of the virus can serve to separate different isolates of the measles virus from one another. Radioactive labeling techniques have detected six structural proteins associated with the virus; a schematic diagram in the book shows the structural components and the biochemical dissection of the virus. The authors also discuss that the various immune responses to the virus can be due to \"variation in the patient\" rather than virus mutation. The authors do not discount that the physiological behavior of the virus such as its location, number, or replication can also affect the host. This text is suitable for the clinical research workers dealing with immunology, infectious diseases, cellular chemistry, or molecular biology.",

The book reviews the difference operators, the theory of interpolation, first integral mean value theorem, and numerical integration algorithms. The text explains the theory of one-step methods, the Euler scheme, the inverse Euler scheme, and also Richardson's extrapolation. The book discusses the general theory of Runge-Kutta processes, including the error estimation, and stepsize selection of the R-K process. The text evaluates the different linear multistep methods such as the explicit linear multistep methods (Adams-Bashforth, 1883), the implicit linear multistep methods (Adams-Moulton scheme, 1926), and the general theory of linear multistep methods. The book also reviews the existing stiff codes based on the implicit/semi-implicit, singly/diagonally implicit Runge-Kutta schemes, the backward differentiation formulas, the second derivative formulas, as well as the related extrapolation processes. The text is intended for undergraduates in mathematics, computer science, or engineering courses, andfor postgraduate students or researchers in related disciplines.",

The proper use of algebraic notation and practical manipulative skills such as factoring, using exponents and radicals, and simplifying rational expressions is highlighted, along with the most common mistakes in algebra. The reader is then introduced to the solution of linear, quadratic, and other types of equations and systems of equations, as well as the solution of inequalities. Subsequent chapters deal with the most basic functions: polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithm, and trigonometric. Trigonometry and the inverse trigonometric functions and identities are also presented. The book concludes with a review of progressions, permutations, combinations, and the binomial theorem. This monograph will be a useful resource for undergraduate students of mathematics and algebra.",

                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "Handbook on Parent Education presents a contemporary picture of the state of the parent education movement. It tackles a number of critical issues such as the programs that are available or when parent education should begin. Different models of parent education are described, along with parenting programs for youth. The application of parenting programs for specific groups, including foster parents, parents of preschoolers, abusive parents, and parents of handicapped children, is also discussed. Comprised of 14 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the parent education movement as well as several prototype programs and some ethical issues. The distinction between education and therapy is explained, and parent education with special interest groups is described. In addition, problems of research and evaluation and a projection for the future are presented. Subsequent chapters focus on the state of the nuclear family in American society during the 1970s; Rudolf Dreikurs' impact on childrearing practices and his contribution to individual psychology, together with the social context of child behavior; Haim Ginott's approach to parent education; and the effects of parent effectiveness training on families. Transactional analysis approaches to parent education and parent education as a strategy for the prevention of child abuse are also examined. This monograph will appeal to educators, parents, sociologists, and educational psychologists.",
