"description": "Behavioral Embryology deals with the theoretical, philosophical, and empirical problems of behavioral embryology. The book is composed of studies on prenatal neural and behavioral development. The text discussed various topics on behavioral embryology such as the genetic aspects of neuro-embryology; prenatal \"\"organizing\"\" effect of gonadal hormones on the brain and later behavior; sensory, motor, or central neural function; overt embryonic or fetal sensitivity; and overt motility and actual behavior. Embryologists, anatomists, cell biologists, physiologists, physicians, and medical researchers will find the book invaluable.",

"description": "Behavior of Nonhuman Primates: Modern Research Trends, Volume 3 provides information pertinent to research on behavior of nonhuman primates. This book presents the knowledge of the social development of rhesus infants and compares with data on other species. Organized into four chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the interspecies differences in the social influences affecting young primates. This text then examines the nature of the interactions between the infant and its various social companions, wherein each type of social companion may interact with the infant in a number of ways. Other chapters consider the nature of the social organization, which may be presumed to have been shaped by the ecological pressures of the natural habitat. This book discusses as well the color vision and visual acuity in different animals. The final chapter deals with the aspects of primate hearing. This book is a valuable resource for students and research workers.",

This book provides the basic data of the longitudinal study that involve personal interviews and independent personality measures drawn from objective and projective tests. Organized into two parts encompassing 17 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the basic research design, instrumentation, and the broader implications of scientific description and theoretical observations in the context of empirical proof. This text then reviews the fundamental findings of the longitudinal investigation. Other chapters consider the religioushumanism life theme as one of the vivid indicants that a man would be well adjusted in personality. This book discusses as well the types of men who continued to involve themselves on the parentalfamilial life theme are intelligent, self-confident, and prone to be leaders. The final chapter deals with the service life theme, which seem to take all the types of personality patterns. This book is a valuable resource for psychologists and research workers.",

Some papers also deal with the role of statistical consulting in graduate training and teaching statistics at the Open University. One paper describes some observations made on graduate program in statistics, citing concerns of professionalism, competency, and a highly structured university curriculum. Another paper takes a task analysis approach to designing a regression analysis course where, with proper course structuring, students will actively learn to do the objectives of the course. Other papers discuss consulting and research work at the Australian Government's research organization, as well as how to prepare statisticians for future government service or for the private industry. One paper deals with some important things that a practicing statistician should know, but which are seldom taught in statistics courses. Another paper describes teaching statistics at a distance from the Open University in the United Kingdom. The collection can prove helpful for academic statisticians in educational institutions, to statisticians, or to mathematicians employed in the public or private sectors.",

"description": "Genetic Mechanisms of Development is a compilation of articles that surveys the application of genetic systems of analysis to the resolution of fundamental problems in developmental biology. The book is composed of sections that deal with various aspects of genetic mechanisms. The first section tackles the genetic analysis of gene regulation in microorganisms. The second section discusses the application of Mendelian genetics to the study of the development of Drosophila, amphibians, and the laboratory mouse. The last section introduces somatic cell genetics, a tool for developmental biologists. Biologists, geneticists, zoologists, and researchers will find the book a good source of information.",

"description": "The Cell Surface: Mediator of Developmental Processes contains the papers presented at the 38th Symposium of the Society for Developmental Biology, held at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in June 1979. The compendium is divided into three parts. The first part provides a summary of the status of the knowledge about the cell surface, which includes the plasma membrane, its associated cytoskeleton and the variety of surface-associated macromolecules. The second portion focuses on the early development of the cell surface. A wide spectrum of techniques, systems, and results in the study of the cell surface are presented. The last part shows a variety of experimental systems in which the cell surface figures prominently in important developmental events. The results from experiments on plant symbiosis, mammalian teratocarcinomas, adhesion and cell shape, and various extracellular macromolecules are detailed extensively. Cytologists, microbiologists, biologists, and other scientists in allied fields will find the publication very insightful.",

This book presents the development in the study of sign language. Organized into four parts encompassing 10 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the fascinating account of sign language acquisition by small children. This text then explores the grammar of sign language and discusses the linguistic status of natural and contrived sign languages. Other chapters consider the many peculiarities of the lexicon and grammar of sign language, and its differences in such respects from oral language. This book discusses as well sign language from the angle of psycholinguistics. The final chapter deals with the educational implications of the use of sign language. This book is a valuable resource for linguists and psycholinguists. Readers who are interested in sign language will also find this book useful.",

"description": "Optimizing Method in Statistics is a compendium of papers dealing with variational methods, regression analysis, mathematical programming, optimum seeking methods, stochastic control, optimum design of experiments, optimum spacings, and order statistics. One paper reviews three optimization problems encountered in parameter estimation, namely, 1) iterative procedures for maximum likelihood estimation, based on complete or censored samples, of the parameters of various populations; 2) optimum spacings of quantiles for linear estimation; and 3) optimum choice of order statistics for linear estimation. Another paper notes the possibility of posing various adaptive filter algorithms to make the filter learn the system model while the system is operating in real time. By reducing the time necessary for process modeling, the time required to implement the acceptable system design can also be reduced One paper evaluates the parallel structure between duality relationships for the linear functional version of the generalized Neyman-Pearson problem, as well as the duality relationships of linear programming as these apply to bounded-variable linear programming problems. The compendium can prove beneficial to mathematicians, students, and professor of calculus, statistics, or advanced mathematics.",

"description": "Theoretical Biology and Complexity: Three Essays on the Natural Philosophy of Complex Systems is made up of three short essayseach separately conceived and written, each with distinct thrusts and emphases, but nevertheless closely related in substance and spirit. All three spring from a common concern: to grasp and comprehend the material basis of living systems. The first essay is about the interaction between particles and the consequent observable manifestations. It casts the analysis of the measurement process into an elegant dualism relating modes of description, and explores the consequences of this dualism for what may be called classical physics. The second essay explores the deeper consequences of representing the properties of natural systems through states built up out of observable quantities, and the dynamics that such systems impose on each other through interactions. The final essay argues that traditional modes of system representation, involving fixed sets of states together with imposed dynamical laws, strictly pertains only to an extremely limited class of systems (called simple systems or mechanisms). Systems not in this class are called complex, and these can only be in some sense approximated, locally and temporally, by simple ones. Such a radical alteration of viewpoint leads to a large number of concrete, practical consequences, some of which are described in the essay.",

This book covers a variety of topics in economic theory, ranging from the analysis of production functions to the general recoverability problem of optimal dynamic behavior. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with an overview of the theory of observable behavior by analyzing the invariant relationships among economic variables. This text then examines the Lie group theory which provides one of the most efficient methods of studying invariance properties. Other chapters consider the analysis of exogenous technical change, a process partly due to dynamic market forces of supply and demand. This book discusses as well the topics closely related to parametric changes under Lie groups and related transformations. The final chapter deals with mathematical foundations of the theory of observable market behavior. This book is a valuable resource for economists.",
