"subtitle": "The Changing Research Landscape",
                "description": "Research institutions are under pressure to make their outputs more accessible in order to meet funding requirements and policy guidelines. Libraries have traditionally played an important role by exposing research output through a predominantly institution-based digital repository, with an emphasis on storing published works. New publishing paradigms are emerging that include research data, huge volumes of which are being generated globally. Repositories are the natural home for managing, storing and describing institutional research content. New Content in Digital Repositories explores the diversity of content types being stored in digital repositories with a focus on research data, creative works, and the interesting challenges they pose. Chapters in this title cover: new content types in repositories; developing and training repository teams; metadata schemas and standards for diverse resources; persistent identifiers for research data and authors; research data: the new gold; exposing and sharing repository content; selecting repository software; repository statistics and altmetrics.Explores the role of repositories in the research lifecycle, and the emerging context for increasing non-text based contentFocuses on the management of research data in repositories and related issues such as metadata and persistent identifiersDiscusses skills and knowledge needed by repository staff to manage content diversity",

                "subtitle": "Dancing with the Tigers",
                "description": "Production and innovation activities are being re-distributed across the world. The BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are proving the major engine of global growth, being less impacted by the financial crisis than developed economies or able to recover more quickly. Asia in the Global ICT Innovation Network takes a close look at the information and communication technologies (ICTs) landscape, not only in two BRICS countries, India and China, but also in South Korea and Taiwan. The book documents the size of the ICT sector for each of the selected countries, and assesses their R&D; expenditure and its place in the international innovation network. The selected countries play a major role in shifting patterns of international trade and global value chains. The countries offer different historical profiles, with reforms dating back from the nineties for Chindia and earlier policies for the dragons, with later reforms focusing on IT. The book accounts for their specificity, and emphasises the fact that the four countries have achieved impressive results in terms of economic growth. The ICT sector was a major contributor to this growth and led a pioneering role for other sectors.This title consists of three parts: ICT in emerging economies, covering China and India; the return of the dragons, covering South Korea and Taiwan; and Network knowledge and trade, covering regional networks of R&D; centres, India as an S&T; cooperation partner, Asian countries in the global production network, and Asia in the process of internationalisation of ICT and R&D.;Provides a well-supported look at the ICT sector in Asia, an area where extant literature consists mostly in a scattering of articles in various and heterogeneous journalsFocuses on innovationSpeaks to a growing interest in the role of emerging countries in ICT innovation",

                "name": "Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastics",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "This fascinating new book examines strategies for experimental approaches to stiffness, strength and toughness testing of plastic and composite materials. These materials, being non-linear viscoelastic, impose contraints on testing which are absent from other types of material. This book covers the latest testing approaches for providing service-pertinent data within a limited budget and relates the structure of the tests and the functions that they serve to the intrinsic nature of the mechanical properties of plastic materials. Its aim is also to evaluate beneficial approaches to testing in the context of multiple objectives mechanical evaluation being considered here in the light of modulus measurement and strength/ductility measurement.Detailed supplements at the end of each chapter expand upon the main points raised. The book is aimed at a broad audience of materials scientists and engineers. Those in industry will find the accounts of the approaches that can be used for the characterisation of mechanical properties and for utilising mechanical properties effectively in end product applications especially useful. Students and lecturers in materials science, engineering and polymer science will also find the book invaluable.",

                "description": "Records and archival arrangements in Australia are globally relevant because Australias indigenous people represent the oldest living culture in the world, and because modern Australia is an ex-colonial society now heavily multicultural in outlook. Archives and Societal Provenance explores this distinctiveness using the theoretical concept of societal provenance as propounded by Canadian archival scholars led by Dr Tom Nesmith. The books seventeen essays blend new writing and re-workings of earlier work, comprising the fi rst text to apply a societal provenance perspective to a national setting.

After a prologue by Professor Michael Moss entitled A prologue to the afterlife, this title consists of four sections. The first considers historical themes in Australian recordkeeping. The second covers some of the institutions which make the Australian archival story distinctive, such as the Australian War Memorial and prime ministerial libraries. The third discusses the formation of archives. The fourth and final part explores debates surrounding archives in Australia. The book concludes by considering the notion of an archival afterlife.Presents material from a lifes career working and thinking about archives and records and their multiple relationships with history, biography, culture and societyThe first book to focus specifically on the Australian archival sceneCovers a wide variety of themes, including: the theoretical concept of the records continuum; census records destruction; Prime Ministerial Libraries; and the documentation of war",

Rubber forming adopts a rubber pad contained in a rigid box in which one of the tools (die or punch) is replaced by the rubber pad. Up to 60% of all sheet metal parts in aircraft industry such as frames, seat parts, ribs, windows and doors are fabricated using rubber-pad forming processes. Key process parameters such as rubber material, stamping velocity, rubber-pad hardness and thickness and friction conditions are investigated.The potential role of rubber as a flexible punch in metal working processes is to give insight to engineers about different parts that can be produced using this processThe procedure of suitable die design for each process is presented in detailFull defect analysis is undertaken with a thorough report presented to optimize rubber-pad forming processes",

                "description": "This book encompasses a wide range of mathematical concepts relating to regularly repeating surface decoration from basic principles of symmetry to more complex issues of graph theory, group theory and topology. It presents a comprehensive means of classifying and constructing patterns and tilings. The classification of designs is investigated and discussed forming a broad basis upon which designers may build their own ideas. A wide range of original illustrative material is included.In a complex area previously best understood by mathematicians and crystallographers, the author develops and applies mathematical thinking to the context of regularly repeating surface-pattern design in a manner accessible to artists and designers. Design construction is covered from first principles through to methods appropriate for adaptation to large-scale screen-printing production. The book extends mathematical thinking beyond symmetry group classification. New ideas are developed involving motif orientation and positioning, including reference to a crystal structure, leading on to the classification and construction of discrete patterns and isohedral tilings.Designed to broaden the scope of surface-pattern designers by increasing their knowledge in otherwise impenetrable theory of geometry this 'designer friendly' book serves as a manual for all types of surface design including textiles, wallpapers and wrapping paper. It is also of value to crystallographers, mathematicians and architects.",

                "description": "This authoritative and comprehensive book makes the reader familiar with the processes of bringing orphan drugs to the global market. There are between 5,000 and 7,000 rare diseases and the number of patients suffering from them is estimated to be more than 50 million in the US and Europe. Before the orphan drug legislation enacted in the US in 1983, there was a limited interest from industry to develop treatment for very small patient groups. One of the difficulties is, of course, that similar levels of investment are needed from a pharmaceutical company to bring a drug to the market for both small and large patient groups.The journey from application of an orphan drug designation to a reimbursed market- approved drug is long and many obstacles occur during the journey.After reading the book, readers will: Understand who the players/stakeholders are in the rare orphan disease field and their specific needs and concerns: patients and patient organizations, researchers and treating physicians within the field, industry, regulatory and reimbursement bodies* Understand the strong partnership between the different players and the various initiatives to improve and increase access to treatment for patients; minimizing the gap between numbers of known diseases, orphan designations, approved drugs and paid drugs.The book also provides short practical case stories from patients and researchers, as well as representatives from industry and authorities on the challenges they came across in developing orphan drugs or getting access to orphan drugs.A comprehensive overview of strategy, key activities and considerations of how to bring an orphan drug from concept to the market and make it available to patientsA source of updated information, news and trends for those who are already active in this fast-evolving fieldCovers the global definitions and the criteria for getting an orphan drug designation in, for example, the US and Europe",

                "description": "Composite materials have been used more and more during the last decade to lighten structures. But until now, there has been no clear way of establishing how to design properly optimised laminated composite plates with no reduction in strength. Most modern references lack adequate information for the designer wanting to tailor or synthesise a design. This exciting package offers a solution. It relates the theory of composite materials to real life and provides 'rules' for designing composites structures properly and in an optimum way.In the book, Professor Miravete demonstrates the optimisation of beams, plates and sandwich constructions in the designs of advanced composite materials. He also illustrates optimal material systems, fibre orientations and lay-up through functions of geometry, load type and boundary conditions. The associates software, on two disks, will enableusers to adapt the information to their own requirements and is very user-friendly with helpful manuals. This will be an essential package for designers and engineers in a wide range of areas, from aeronautics to automotive andmarine as well as general industry.Chapter 1 provides a general background on composite materials.Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5 are concerned with constant thickness composite structures, and provide a survey of various design methodologies of shells, plates and sandwich constructions.Chapters 6, 7, 8 and 9 examine variable thickness composite structures, and consider beams, plates and sandwiches.A completemanual for anyone concerned with designing composite structuresIncludes book and used-friendly softwareCan be easily applied to any area - aeronautics, automotive, marine or general industry",

                "description": "Safe navigation of the seas is of global importance. Sea lanes provide vital connections for the growth of the global economy and the wellbeing of people everywhere. The sea lanes are of particular importance for the East Asian region, as most trade is undertaken on the ocean. Booming economies in the region such as China and Vietnam put more pressure on sea lanes, triggering concern for the safety of navigation. Securing the Safety of Navigation in East Asia identifies salient issues for academic debate, and further explores those that have practical implications for the safety of navigation in East Asia. Contemporary maritime security concentrates on safe navigation and inhibiting transnational crimes, including sea piracy and maritime terrorism. Maritime environmental security and search and rescue at sea are also important. Securing the Safety of Navigation in East Asia is structured into four sections: the first part introduces the topic, and looks at the safety of navigation and the search for a cooperative mechanism. The second part considers the international legal framework and its implications for East Asia. The third part presents national perspectives on the safety of navigation, and fi nally part four considers navigational issues in the South China Sea.Places a special focus on East AsiaAccommodates national perspectives in East Asia on navigation given by scholars from China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and SingaporePresents a special section on the South China Sea, located in Southeast Asia and connecting the Indian and Pacific oceans; a critical sea route for maritime transport",
