                "description": "Global competition and stakeholder demands are causing business leaders to seek greater value from their supply chains, and practitioners who think and act more like financial managers. Designed for self-learning, training, and course instruction, this book shows how to apply financial concepts, tools, and techniques to the primary activities of supply chain managers. Supply Chain Financial Management helps readers better understand and manage these activities from a finance perspective and shows how to present the impact of results in financial terms that corporate executives expect. It bridges the divide between supply chain management (SCM) and finance to meet the next level of demands for improved performance and competitive advantage.",

                "name": "Race and Ethnicity in the Juvenile Justice System",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "Race and Ethnicity in the Juvenile Justice System provides a comprehensive empirical examination of the role of race and ethnicity in the juvenile court. Using empirical research as a foundation, the authors examine how race and ethnicity influence multiple decision points for youth entering the juvenile system, including arrest, referral, petition, pre-adjudication release, adjudication, and disposition. The authors ground the decision-making in a separate chapter that exclusively focuses on theories that can be used to explain the role of race and ethnicity in juvenile justice processing.\n\nAdditionally, there is an examination of how community factors differentially impact decision-making based on the race/ethnicity of youth, the role of race/ethnicity in the practice of transferring youth to adult court, and how race influences juveniles perceptions of police and the juvenile system. Also, the authors empirically examine the role of race/ethnicity on the processing of status offenders and how it influences female involvement in delinquency.\n\nIn framing all of these salient issues in the proper context, the authors provide a historical analysis of the role of race in development of the juvenile court system and how different races were treated both before and after the juvenile courts implementation. The underlying theme of the text is that all races/ethnicities of youth were not initially served by or meant to benefit from the juvenile court. Therefore, the continuing racial and ethnic disparities currently observed in the system can be traced to the pre-juvenile court era.",

                "description": "McKenna still has a long way to go if she's going to make the competitive gymnastics team in March. She's doing better in school, thanks to Josie's tutoring, so when Josie needs help facing her fear of horseback riding, McKenna signs up for the job. Only that causes friction with her teammate Toulane, who seems jealous of McKenna's newfound friendship with Josie. When McKenna discovers the real root of Toulane's anger, she desperately wants to help her teammate. But how can McKenna cheer on Josie at the riding center, AND support Toulane at the gym, and still work toward her own goal of making the competitive team? McKenna's torn loyalties lead to some discoveries about the power of believing in yourself and encouraging one another.",

Children no longer simply go out and play, rather, play is arranged, scheduled, and parentally-approved and supervised. How do these playdates happen? Who gets asked and who doesnt? What is acceptable play behavior? In The Playdate, Tamara R. Mose focuses on the parents of young children in New York City to explore how the shift from spontaneous and child-directed play to managed and adult-arranged playdates reveals the structures of modern parenting and the new realities of childhood. Mose argues that with the rise of moral panics surrounding child abuse, pedophilia, and fears about safety in the city, as well as helicopter parenting, and over-scheduling, the playdate has emerged as not just a necessity in terms of security and scheduling, but as the very hallmark of good parenting.<br><br><br>Based on interviews with parents, teachers, childcare directors, and nannies from Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Long Island, the book provides a first-hand account of the strategies used by middle-class parents of young children to navigate social relationshipstheir own and those of their children. Mose shows how parents use playdates to improve their own experiences of raising children in New York City while at the same time carefully managing and ensuring their own social and cultural capital. Mose illustrates how the organization of playdates influences parents work lives, friendships, and public childrearing performances, and demonstrates how this may potentially influence the social development of both children and parents. Ultimately, this captivating and well-researched book shows that the playdate is much more than just childs play.<br><br><br><br><br><br>Tamara Mose on The Brian Lehrer Show</p>",

Hardware, software, and cultural expectations combine to make some technologies an easier fit for some bodies than for others. A YouTube video without closed captions or a social network site that is incompatible with a screen reader can restrict the access of users who are hard of hearing or visually impaired. Often, people with disabilities require accommodation, assistive technologies, or other forms of aid to make digital media accessibleuseablefor them.<br><br>Restricted Access investigates digital media accessibilitythe processes by which media is made usable by people with particular needsand argues for the necessity of conceptualizing access in a way that will enable greater participation in all forms of mediated culture. Drawing on disability and cultural studies, Elizabeth Ellcessor uses an interrogatory framework based around issues of regulation, use, content, form, and experience to examine contemporary digital media. Through interviews with policy makers and accessibility professionals, popular culture and archival materials, and an ethnographic study of internet use by people with disabilities, Ellcessor reveals the assumptions that undergird contemporary technologies and participatory cultures. Restricted Access makes the crucial point that if digital media open up opportunities for individuals to create and participate, but that technology only facilitates the participation of those who are already privileged, then its progressive potential remains unrealized. Engagingly written with powerful examples, Ellcessor demonstrates the importance of alternate uses, marginalized voices, and invisible innovations in the context of disability identities to push us to rethink digital media accessibility.</p>",

The ability to make good on that threat is as democratized as posting a Tweet or making blog. Data about us is created, shared, collected, analyzed, and processed at an overwhelming scale. The damage caused can be severe, affecting relationships, employment, academic success, and any number of other opportunitiesand it can also be long lasting. <br><br>One possible solution to this threat? A digital right to be forgotten, which would in turn create a legal duty to delete, hide, or anonymize information at the request of another user. The highly controversial right has been criticized as a repugnant affront to principles of expression and access, as unworkable as a technical measure, and as effective as trying to put the cat back in the bag. Ctrl+Z breaks down the debate and provides guidance for a way forward. It argues that the existing perspectives are too limited, offering easy forgetting or none at all. By looking at new theories of privacy and organizing the many potential applications of the right, law and technology scholar Meg Leta Jones offers a set of nuanced choices. To help us choose, she provides a digital information life cycle, reflects on particular legal cultures, and analyzes international interoperability. In the end, the right to be forgotten can be innovative, liberating, and globally viable.</p>",

                "description": "Hadoop is one of the most exciting technologies to ever emerge and is transforming the computer industry. Although Hadoop is designed to process MapReduce queries, it has evolved into accepting SQL, and then converts that SQL to MapReduce. This has opened the door for millions of customers who want to take advantage of their SQL knowledge to query Hadoop systems. Tera-Tom Genius Series - Hadoop Architecture and SQL, written by Tom Coffing and Jason Nolander, details the architecture of Hadoop and the SQL commands available. This book is perfect for anyone who wants to query Hadoop with SQL. It educates readers on how to create tables, how the data is distributed, and how the system processes the data. In addition, it includes hundreds of pages of SQL examples and explanations. The Authors Tera-Tom Coffing, who has written over 75 successful books on Data Warehousing, and Jason Nolander, who has over 20 years of financial industry experience, have written a book that is sure to be your go to book on Hadoop.",

                "description": "A blueprint for managing people, not generations Unfairly Labeled challenges the very concept of \"generational differences\" as an unfair generalization, and offers a roadmap to intergenerational understanding. While acknowledging that generational stereotypes exist, author Jessica Kriegel argues that they are wrongaand that it's unreasonable to assume that the millions of people born in the same 20-year time span are motivated by the same things, attracted to the same things, and should be dealt with in the same way. Kriegel's experience as Organizational Developer at Oracle puts her squarely in the talent strategy realm, where she works to optimize leadership development, team effectiveness, and organizational design. Drawing upon her experiences with workers of all ages and types, she shows how behaviors know no generational boundaries and how to work with people based on their talents, strengths, and weaknesses rather than simply slapping on a generational label and fitting them into an arbitrary slot. There are 80 million Millenials in America, yet there are myriad books on \"managing Millenials\" and \"working with Millenials\" and \"the problem with Millenials.\" This book shows that whether you're working with Millenials, Generation X, or Baby Boomers, age is not the issueait's the interpersonal dynamics that matter most. Examine the concept of \"generational issues\" Explore the disparate reality of each 20-year generational span Learn to understand and work effectively with other generations Facilitate intergenerational understanding sessions The human mind craves categorization, so the tendency to lump people together is natural. It may, however, be holding your organization back. The members of each generation have only one thing in commonatheir ageaand even that varies by two whole decades. Why assume that they should all be managed the same way? Unfairly Labeled shows you a better way, and provides a roadmap to a more effective organizational strategy.",
