                "description": "<p>World War II brought together a group of psychiatrists and clinical and social psychologists in the British Army where they developed radical, action-oriented innovations in social psychiatry. They became known as the \"Tavistock Group\" since the core members had been at the pre-war Tavistock Clinic. They created the post-war Tavistock Institute of Human Relations and expanded on their wartime achievements by pioneering a new mode of relating theory and practice, called in these volumes, \"The Social Engagement of Social Science.\"<br><br>There are three perspectives: the socio-psychological, the socio-technical, and the socio-ecological. These perspectives are interdependent, yet each has its own focus and is represented in a separate volume.<br><br>The Institute's dynamic social science approach to industrial problems, presented in this second volume, began with Eric Trist's coal-mining program for the development of more productive and personally satisfying self-regulating forms of work organization. The whole \"Quality of Life\" movement owes its theoretical and empirical basis to this pathfinding endeavor.<br><br>Volume I, The Socio-Psychological Perspective, extended the object-relations approach in psychoanalysis to group, organizational, and wider social life. This extension is related to field theory, the personality/culture approach, and open systems theory. Action-oriented papers deal with key ideas in social psychiatry, varieties of group process, new paths in family studies, the dynamics of organizational change, and the unconscious in culture and society.<br><br>Volume III will focus on non-hierarchical forms of organization facilitating inter-organizational relations in complex and rapidly changing environmentsthe socio-ecological perspective. This perspective is offered as a guide to institution building for the future.</p>",

                "name": "Actions into Leadership",
                "subtitle": "",
                "description": "There are many competing ideas of how to be a good leader, but the majority of them do not examine what is meant by leadership. It is taken for granted that a good leader 'gets results' and earns recognition for them, which has produced a great deal of literature revealing the 'habits' or 'traits' of good leaders, there to be studied and emulated. But each setting in which leadership takes place is different, and it no more makes sense to think of leadership in terms of specific and universal traits than it would to ask a painter to fix a car. Instead, the concept of leadership must be understood as contextu- al, and therefore on display all around us. It is not simply to be found in the boardroom of industrial giants or on the pages of For- tune magazine - it is to be found everywhere, in every setting where an organised response perfectly satisfies an expressed wish. It is good leadership that ensures your morning coffee is just as you expect it to be, and that explains why contented employees show up to work on time, even when the boss is away. The study - and therefore the development - of leadership skills must start from an understanding of organisational purpose, and from this study the function of leadership in context can be dis- tilled and improved. This book provides a template of general principles for understanding the role of leadership within an organ- isation, allowing leaders to understand their own role without the need for psychology or acting classes. With leadership placed in its proper perspective, and the im- portance of organisational purpose asserted, the book then guides the process of mapping out a leadership schematic specific to each organisation, making clear how each role in the organisation re- lates to the overall purpose. This schematic can then be used to clarify the role of individuals, focus development and training, and foster an environment in which initiative, innovation and creative thinking can be brought to bear on the bottom line, by spreading an understanding of the organisational purpose and allowing individ- uals properly to understand their relation to it and gain possession of the purpose. The task of a leader is to increase the correlation between individ- ual and group purpose. In order to do this, leaders need first to un- derstand the organisation that they seek to lead, grasping its core purpose, and then nurture the living threads of leadership that bind it together. To do this, it is first necessary to dispense with the ven- eration of leaders, and replace it with a clear understanding of, and respect for, leadership.",

They made Claymation movies and posted them to YouTube. They made fun of Windmere-Carruthers, the private school they attended, they invented new flavours for their parents' organic ice cream shop, and they dressed up their golden retriever, Buster. But when Helena went into senior year things started to change. Rather than being Aerin's inseparable sister, she started to push her away. Then, on a snowy winter's day, Helena vanished. <br><br>Four years later, Helena's body is found. Wracked with grief and refusing to give up on her sister, Aerin spends months trying to figure out what exactly happened to Helena and who killed her. But the police have no leads. A young, familiar officer named Thomas wants to help and suggests she checks out a website called Case Not Closed. Hesitantly, she posts, and when teenagers Seneca and Maddox show up on her doorstep offering to help investigate she accepts in desperation. Both have suffered their own losses and also posted to the site with no luck, so they are hoping this case might be the one they crack. But as their investigation begins, it seems that maybe it's no accident that they are all together, and that maybe the crimes have something - or someone - in common.",

                "description": "<p>A sweeping historical and political account of how our present-day policy debates around citizenship and equality came to be<br><br>The landmark Supreme Court decision in June 2015 legalizing the right to same-sex marriage marked a major victory in gay and lesbian rights in the United States. Once subject to a patchwork of laws granting legal status to same-sex couples in some states and not others, gay and lesbian Americans now enjoy full legal status for their marriages wherever they travel or reside in the country. For many, the Supreme Courts ruling means that gay and lesbian citizens are one step closer to full equality with the rest of America. <br><br>In Fragmented Citizens, Stephen M. Engel contends that the present moment in gay and lesbian rights in America is indeed one of considerable advancement and changebut that there is still much to be done in shaping American institutions to recognize gays and lesbians as full citizens. With impressive scope and fascinating examples, Engel traces the relationship between gay and lesbian individuals and the government from the late nineteenth century through the present. Engel shows that gays and lesbians are more accurately described as fragmented citizens. Despite the marriage ruling, Engel argues that LGBT Americans still do not have full legal protections against workplace, housing, family, and other kinds of discrimination. There remains a continuing struggle of the state to control the sexuality of gay and lesbian citizensthey continue to be fragmented citizens. <br><br>Engel argues that understanding the development of the idea of gay and lesbian individuals as less-than-whole citizens can help us make sense of the governments continued resistance to full equality despite massive changes in public opinion. Furthermore, he argues that it was the states ability to identify and control gay and lesbian citizens that allowed it to develop strong administrative capacities to manage all of its citizens in matters of immigration, labor relations, and even national security. The struggle for gay and lesbian rights, then, affected not only the lives of those seeking equality but also the very nature of American governance itself. Fragmented Citizens is a sweeping historical and political account of how our present-day policy debates around citizenship and equality came to be.</p>",

                "description": "Master SDDC Operations with proven best practices\n\nAbout This Book\n\n* Understand the drawbacks of the traditional paradigm and management that make operations difficult in SDDC\n* Master performance and capacity management in Software-Defined Data Center\n* Operationalize performance and capacity monitoring with proven dashboards \n\nWho This Book Is For\n\nThis book is primarily for any system administrator or cloud infrastructure specialist who is interested in performance management and capacity management using VMware technologies. This book will also help IT professionals whose area of responsibility is not VMware, but who work with the VMware team. You can be Windows, Linux, Storage, or Network team; or application architects. Note that prior exposure to the VMware platform of data-center and cloud-based solutions is expected.\n\nWhat You Will Learn\n\n* Simplify the task of performance and capacity management\n* Master the counters in vCenter and vRealize Operations and understand their dependency on one another\n* Educate your peers and management on SDDC Operations\n* Complete your SDDC monitoring to include non-VMware components\n* Perform SDDC performance troubleshooting\n* Explore real-life examples of how super metric and advanced dashboards\n* Introduce and implement a Performance SLA\n* Accomplish your Capacity Management by taking into service tiering and performance SLA\n\nIn Detail\n\nPerformance management and capacity management are the two top-most issues faced by enterprise IT when doing virtualization. Until the first edition of the book, there was no in-depth coverage on the topic to tackle the issues systematically. The second edition expands the first edition, with added information and reorganizing the book into three logical parts.\nThe first part provides the technical foundation of SDDC Management. It explains the difference between a software-defined data center and a classic physical data center, and how it impacts both architecture and operations. From this strategic view, it zooms into the most common challengesperformance management and capacity management. It introduces a new concept called Performance SLA and also a new way of doing capacity management.\nThe next part provides the actual solution that you can implement in your environment. It puts the theories together and provides real-life examples created together with customers. It provides the reasons behind each dashboard, so that you get the understanding on why it is required and what problem it solves.\nThe last part acts as a reference section. It provides a complete reference to vSphere and vRealize Operations counters, explaining their dependencies and providing practical guidance on the values you should expect in a healthy environment.\n\nStyle and approach \n\nThis book covers the complex topic of managing performance and capacity in an easy-to-follow style. It relates real-world scenarios to topics in order to help you implement the book's teachings on the go.",

In the first major project, we develop a dynamic Headlines application that displays the latest news headlines along with up-to-date currency and weather information. In project two, we build a Crime Map application that is backed by a MySQL database, allowing users to submit information on and the location of crimes in order to plot danger zones and other crime trends within an area. In the final project, we combine Flask with more modern technologies, such as Twitter's Bootstrap and the NoSQL database MongoDB, to create a Waiter Caller application that allows restaurant patrons to easily call a waiter to their table. This pragmatic tutorial will keep you engaged as you learn the crux of Flask by working on challenging real-world applications.\n\nStyle and approach \n\nThis book will provide you with rich, practical experience of Flask. Every technology, that is employed along with Flask is comprehensively introduced, while the book focusses on developing web applications. Pointers to educational material are always given if you want to gain in-depth knowledge of the various technologies used.",
