"description": "The GAR Special Report 2024 helps to build resilience by asking: How can we learn from recent disasters? How can we protect more people when the next hazard hits? How can we reduce the hazard risks to minimize death and destruction and to avoid disasters? The report applies forensic disaster analysis to look at ten recent events, aiming to understand better the unique footprints - or disaster DNA - of these specific occasions. Forensic Investigations of Disasters (FORIN) aims to improve the understanding of disaster risk construction and disasters. It offers policy options and evidence-based recommendations for better corrective, as well as prospective, approaches to integrate disaster risk reduction into development policy and processes. This involves identifying underlying causes, risk drivers, and entry points for decision making so that risks can be recognized, evaluated, and addressed.",

"description": "The UN Disability and Development Report 2024 provides an updated comprehensive analysis to address the needs of the international community to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for persons with disabilities. The publication is an update of the UN Disability and Development Report 2018, and it presents the most recent global analysis based on an unprecedented amount of data, legislation and policies from all countries to understand the socio-economic circumstances of persons with disabilities worldwide and the challenges and barriers they faced in their daily lives, including the exacerbated impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This analysis shows that, since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, there has been much progress, despite the setbacks posed by COVID-19. But many persons with disabilities still fall behind and continue to face barriers and discrimination. Gaps between persons with and without disabilities persist in the implementation of all the SDGs. For women with disabilities, indigenous persons with disabilities and persons with intellectual or psychosocial disabilities, the gaps are even wider. Although great strides have been made, if the observed trends since 2015 continue, the world will not achieve the SDGs for persons with disabilities by 2030. Progress needs to be accelerated. Against the backdrop of all the available evidence, the report identifies good practices and recommends urgent actions to accelerate this progress. The e-book for this publication has been converted into an accessible format for the visually impaired and people with print reading disabilities. It is fully compatible with leading screen-reader technologies such as JAWS and NVDA.",

"description": "Martina Evans's eponymous Mules are shoes brought to her as an exotic gift by an American relation. They suggest to her the possibility of a very different world, one which the poems' speakers set out to explore. As happens often in her poems, new and invented experiences throw into relief Evans's own intensely lived experiences: the radiography units of hospitals and their merciless work culture, in which the speakers must survive; a London densely populated by human and animal characters whose colours and aspect she brilliantly evokes. And we revisit places her readers have encountered before, especially Burnfort, County Cork, with its bars and gossip and childhood complications, a subject of her lyrics. And, in the wake of the success of her 2018 book-length sequence, Now We Can Talk Openly About Men, she gives us a new long poem, 'Mountainy Men', which re-imagines family trauma through the prism of classic American cinema... American Mules is two books and two or more worlds in one. Evans's English makes different musics in the imagining of Ireland, England and America, but the same wise, wry, inventive mouth speaks them all.",

In the new collection from the Welsh Forward Prize-shortlisted poet, nature writer and editor of the eco-literary magazine Archipelago, McNeillie explores his deep sense, in his older age, of not belonging anywhere other than in mind and in the wild.\nMcNeillie recovers and renews Pytheas the Greek' s exploration of fourth century BC Britain and Thomas Pennant' s account of Wales, but A Wild Goose Chase lays these historical accounts of the natural world beside the author' s own experiences. The poems' moving and not unmelancholy late recollections blur temporal and spatial boundaries as they stay alive to the impacts of climate change and globalization.",

Through an extensive amount of case studies, controlled experiments, and research of historical figures, this study illustrates that flow is a singularly productive and desirable state.

"description": "Wales's best-loved contemporary poet, one of our major poets of our endangered environment, returns to prose in Roots Home. As in At the Source (2008), she does something unusual with form. She combines two elements. Seven vivid essay-meditations, informed by (among others) Dylan Thomas, George Herbert, and W.B. Yeats, explore the ways in which poetry bears witness to what is and what might be, presence and transcendence in a threatened world. The meditations precede a journal that runs from January 2018 to December 2020, concluding with a poem entitled 'Winter Solstice'three years of living close to animals, mountains, and (in particular) trees, in human intimacy and lockdown. The flown, the fallen, the golden ones, the deciduous dead, all gone to ground, to dust, to sand, borne on the shoulders of the wind. Listen! They are whispering now while the world talks, and the ice melts, and the seas rise. Look at the trees! Every leaf-scar is a bud expecting a future. The earth speaks in parables. The burning bush. The rainbow. Promises. Promises. This is necessary work. As she declares in 'Why I Write,' the first meditation in Roots Home: 'Morning begins with my journal. I write in it most days, though not every day. It is friend and listener, to record, remember, rage and rhapsodise, a place for requiem and celebration. Words hold detail which might be forgotten - the way the hare halted as it crossed the lawn, the field where a rainbow touched down across the valley, the different voices of wind, or water, the close and distant territorial arias of May blackbirds.'",

"description": "'Madame Martin will throw back her shutters at eight...' With these words Beverley Bie Brahic opens The Hotel Eden, a book about seeing the world. She moves through Paris, the French provinces, the American west coast in the spirit of a flaneur, going about her daily life alert to the variety and mystery of human experience: the soup kitchens, the Luxembourg Gardens and the Latin Quarter, the refugees, works of art and areas of damage. The title poem pays a debt to Joseph Cornell, the master of the assemblage, whose 'The Hotel Eden' discloses a stuffed parrot and other objects under glass. The eye the poem assembles them but cannot tell their intended story. It tells a story all the same. 'On the tip of God's tongue, the bird waits to be named.' This is a book of revelatory indirections, of unexpected moons, creatures, passions, rituals and histories, of days rich in disclosures and in hints of revelation. One of the presiding spirits of?? her book is the Latin poet Horace, whose prayer she renders as her own: Grant me, Apollo, calm and contentment, A healthy body, a mind clear, And let my old age be spent Without dishonour nor the sound of my lyre. 'Fearlessly physical and observant (John Updike's fiction comes to mind), Brahic carries on writing where many poets would stop, and earns that space.'? Carol Rumens, Poetry Review",

Describing what happens to the human brain when individuals connect with others, the book demonstrates how relationships have the power to mold not only human experience but also human biology. The lucid prose describes sexual attraction, marriage, parenting, psychopathic behaviors, and the group dynamics of teachers and workers from a neurobiological perspective. Drawing on numerous studies, this book illuminates new theories about attachment, bonding, and the making and remaking of memory as it examines how the human brain is wired for altruism, compassion, concern, and rapport.\n\n\n \n\nUn nuevo argumento se propone en esta continuacion al bestseler Inteligencia emocional por un nuevo modelo de la inteligencia venido del campo de la ciencia social neurologica.
