Whether through the bloodletting of leeches, the prophylactic removal of every large intestine in the community in the hope of treating depression produced by occult sources of infection, or to the more recent ice pick rampages of thousands of frontal lobe scramblings (including the hapless Rose Kennedy) on the part of Doctor Walter Freeman as he travelled the country in his \"lobotomobile\" ice picking brains at every stop with the joy of an ice cream salesman.

But these people - for all the primitive harm that they produced - were actually trying to help these patients, despite the profound suffering that was the actual product of their dysfunctional medical treatments. This is in direct contrast to modern psychiatry that knows and understands the simple science of statistics and the results of comparing ketamine to all or any of psychiatrists SSRI's or SNRI's.

The statistics and understanding of these relationships are quite simple.

Where the antidepressant measure of SSRIs amount to a fraction of placebo, ketamine's great boast, that we refer to as the Holy Grail of Depression, asserts that 70% of depression sufferers treated with the KISSD process will see 100 days of freedom from depression. No other medicine in the history of modern pharmacy has come close to this figure in achieving anti-depressant effectiveness.

To deny depression sufferers this KISSD process and it's 100 days of freedom from depression, arguably the worst single disease known to Humankind, is to impose the most profound of antihuman sufferings available on to the most vulnerable members of our society.

And further - to make perhaps the darkest of these antimedical points excruciatingly clear - this foisting of pain and suffering onto their very own patients, psychiatrists do with an arm around the patient, looking deeply into her eyes, and whispering to them most lovingly the most despicable of medically false promises.

The truth of medical healing here is that psychiatry should be doing my job. In the first three parts of the book, philosophical developments in central Europe, France, and Britain are examined. A wide range of topics and controversies are discussed, from debates over free will to the legitimacy of tyrannicide. This was also the time of the Northern Renaissance, which saw a resurgence of ancient concepts like skepticism and atomist theories of matter. The volume's final section charts the Catholic reaction to these epochal events in the Counter-Reformation, and especially the ideas of Spanish thinkers like Molina and Suarez. Quite a few familiar figures are discussed, such as Montaigne and Copernicus. But as always in this series, Adamson lavishes attention on fascinating figures who are often ignored in the history of philosophy, like John Dee, Robert Fludd, and Oliva Sabuco (who is just one of numerous women intellectuals covered). Another feature of the book is its attention to literature and the arts: the reader will learn how the achievements of Durer, Michelangelo, Shakespeare, and Cervantes relate to philosophical currents of the time. Structured in a distributive justice framework, Access to Knowledge in the Developing World provides insights into the substantive inequalities that deprive developing countries of adequate access to books and learning resources. This book focuses on the role of copyright and access to knowledge in building capacity for economic growth and development, examining the links between the copyright system and distributive justice. Opening with a historical overview of early bilateralism and the origin of multilateralism in the global copyright regime, Mahalwar takes a rights-based approach to the concept of development to explore legal solutions. By investigating global copyright barriers to accessing knowledge, this book thus explores whether the existing legal framework adequately addresses the educational and research requirements of the developing world. The anonymous author acknowledged that he had based his work on that of Fulcher of Chartres who was a participant in the crusade and the events that followed and who despatched an early version of his Historia Ierosolimitana to northern Europe in 1107. This debt to Fulcher, who went on to produce a longer Historia that ended in 1127, has frequently led later historians to undervalue the Gesta Francorum, although it is clear from a closer reading of it that the writer worked intelligently to abridge his source in a way that focused closely on the events and characters that would be of most interest to his local readership. He also augmented his main source where he felt it was lacking by including a much fuller description of the city of Jerusalem and an account of the siege of Jerusalem that was probably written by an eyewitness. The editors' introduction identifies the passages where the writer can be shown to have used Fulcher of Chartres's 1107 text, now lost, and distinguishes between those events where Fulcher was a participant and wrote from first-hand experience and others where he had been absent and so necessarily drew on other writers to describe them.\n\nThe nineteenth-century edition of the Gesta Francorum was based on only four manuscripts; the present edition is based on twenty-eight, several of them previously unknown. Charming, playful, and thoughtful, Letters of the Late Ignatius Sancho, an African provides an unequalled portrait of the everyday life of a Black family in eighteenth-century London. The collection of 161 letters reveals Sancho as a \"man of letters,\" a committed Christian, and a politically-engaged citizenone of the first Black Britons to cast a vote in a general election. Published posthumously in 1782, the volume met with immediate success. His letters, admired for their distinctive epistolary style, were reproduced as model examples of how to write with feeling, wit, and sincerity. Rich in implications both for comparative legal theory and for the understanding of legal reasoning in practice, it adopts a critical epistemological perspective by enlarging the focus of comparative legal studies and allowing for a much-needed decentering of conventional approaches to law across cultures and disciplines.Using a novel lens, leading scholars Horatia Muir Watt and Geoffrey Samuel explore modes of knowledge, reasoning and veridiction that are usually taken for granted within the law. They investigate interdisciplinary insights from areas as diverse as algorithmic governance, symmetrical anthropology or cinema studies to suggest alternative knowledge frameworks better attuned to our culturally diverse world. Building on well known examples from Roman law, private international law and contemporary orientations in legal comparison, they highlight both the resistance of traditional legal epistemology to transformative moves in other fields as well as how other areas of knowledge incorporate in turn contributions from legal doctrines and juridical argument.Producing Legal Knowledge is a beneficial read for scholars and students of comparative legal studies and legal epistemology, particularly those interested in legal research methods.", "author": "Horatia Muir Watt, Geoffrey Samuel", "slug": "producing-legal-knowledge-3293833-9781035394265-horatia-muir-watt-geoffrey-samuel", "thumbnail_image": "//redshelf-images.s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/cover_image/9781035394265.jpg", "default_thumbnail_image": "//redshelf-images.s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/thumbnail/default_book_thumbnail.jpg", "product_type": "book", "product_id": "3293833", "product_url": "/app/ecom/book/3293833/producing-legal-knowledge-3293833-9781035394265-horatia-muir-watt-geoffrey-samuel", "bisac_codes": [ "LAW016000" ], "items_count": null, "identifiers": { "EISBN13": "9781035394265", "EISBN10": "103539426X" }, "drm": null, "cover_image": null, "default_cover_image": null, "book_type": null }, "relationships": { "lowest_offering": { "data": { "type": "offerings", "id": "00010037542605" } } } }, { "type": "Product", "id": "00010003293832", "attributes": { "name": "Elgar Encyclopedia of Political Representation", "subtitle": "", "description": "This authoritative Encyclopedia provides a comprehensive overview of political representation, with a particular emphasis on contemporary liberal democratic regimes.Presenting concise entries authored by leading scholars, this Encyclopedia traces the historical origins of political representation, exploring key thinkers, pivotal studies, and significant theoretical developments that have shaped modern understanding of this topic. Drawing on extensive empirical research and theoretical frameworks, internationally recognized social development scholar, James Midgley counters neoliberal economic arguments that claim social protection schemes negatively impact development. Instead, he demonstrates how they stimulate economic growth, maximize welfare and foster egalitarian ideals.Midgley explores key historical contexts, tracing how the field of development has expanded to address issues of inequality, gender, popular political participation and ecological sustainability. He highlights the ways in which social protection can advance these goals, while noting the significant challenges and obstacles to their implementation, such as resource scarcity, inadequate coverage and limited administrative capacity. Chapters examine the impact of social protection on economic stability, outlining how these programs boost consumption, mobilise investments and support productive work. Midgley argues for the prioritisation of social protection strategies, advocating for their integration into government development policies.Social Protection and Development is a valuable resource for scholars and students of development, social and public policy, economics and social work.
