"name": "THE CONNECTED DISTRICT",
                "subtitle": "The Problem Was Never the Technology - Lessons from the $100 Billion Graveyard of Failed K-12 Tech",
                "description": "
The problem was never the technology. It was leadership.

Every year, K-12 districts invest billions of dollars in digital tools-learning management systems, adaptive platforms, AI-powered applications, and one-to-one device initiatives. And yet, study after study shows that 60-80 percent of educational technology initiatives fail to meet their intended goals. Platforms are abandoned. Licenses expire unused. Teachers grow skeptical. Trust erodes.

Why?

Because we keep trying to solve adaptive, human problems with technical solutions.

In The Connected District, Dr. Aubrey Escobar draws on more than two decades of experience as a classroom teacher, school administrator, edtech executive, and researcher to confront the hard truth behind the $100 billion graveyard of failed K-12 technology initiatives. The issue is not the quality of the tools. It is the capacity of institutions to lead change.

Grounded in research on transformational leadership and informed by real-world case studies, this book provides a practical, evidence-based framework for leading digital transformation successfully in today's post-pandemic, AI-accelerated educational landscape.

At the heart of the book are four essential leadership pillars:

Build Trust - Establish psychological safety and credibility before launching change.

Cast Vision - Articulate a compelling, student-centered purpose that moves beyond buzzwords.

Foster Innovation - Create safe spaces for experimentation instead of compliance mandates.

Support Individuals - Differentiate support so educators can grow without burnout.

Dr. Escobar unpacks why compliance-driven rollouts fail, how pandemic-era technology trauma reshaped teacher and student relationships with digital tools, and why AI adoption presents not just a technical challenge but a governance and accountability challenge for modern districts.

More than a critique, The Connected District is a working playbook. Each chapter includes diagnostic tools, reflection prompts, and workshop guides that leadership teams can immediately apply. Whether you are:
A superintendent navigating district-wide implementationA principal leading instructional changeA chief technology or academic officer managing resourcesA doctoral student preparing for educational leadershipOr a faculty member teaching digital transformation or change management

This book equips you to move beyond managing technology and toward building institutions capable of adapting.

Digital transformation is not a software problem. It is a leadership problem.

The districts that thrive in the coming decade will not be those with the newest tools, but those with the strongest leadership architecture-institutions that can face disruption without fracturing, and innovate without losing their moral center.

The graveyard of failed initiatives is full.

It's time to cultivate something better.
",

                "description": "
In the late 1850s in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, 16-year-old Polly King marries 19-year-old John Justice, known as the Peacemaker for his skill in settling disputes. Soon, however, they clash. He's a violent alcoholic who wants her home but Polly's devoted to helping the sick and delivering babes, her calling since she killed her sister when she was 11.

Polly's mentored by granny woman Nan Clark. While collecting herbs, they find a skeleton. Sam Edney, sheriff in Blue Ridge and Polly's former beau, examines the crushed skull and says the man was murdered. This is the first in a string of murders that Polly tries to solve.

The only clues seem to be black feathers and a horseshoe boot print near the bodies.

After seeing Sam again, Polly realizes she still loves him. They begin a secret affair two years later and ultimately Polly bears his son.

Though her life is difficult and John's abuse worsens, Polly finds support in friendship with Candy, Nan's granddaughter. Polly is also close to Keera Kelly, an Irish girl who Polly sees as a sister. Keera shows promise as a healer and midwife and they often work together.

Candy leaves Blue Ridge to find a cure for her syphilis and Sam is conscripted into the Rebel army. Polly waits for Sam but hears he died. But there is good news. With the onset of war, the murders have stopped and Candy soon returns home with a wealthy husband.

In April 1865, Union General Stoneman's troops ride through Blue Ridge. Soldiers hold a gun on John, forcing him to saddle and bridle Blackjack, Polly's beloved horse.

Polly soon delivers Keera's baby, a child with John's purple birthmark. Polly then helps Keera leave Blue Ridge and move to Charleston where she'll be safe from John.

While Polly's home alone, her brother-in-law Davey Mack and a friend burst in. Both seriously injured. While treating Davey Mack, Polly sees a horseshoe on the bottom of his boot, identifying him as the murderer. He tells her that his friend had given him the boots a week prior. Polly poisons the man with a Pokeberry tincture, finally stopping the murder in Blue Ridge.

John, now terrified of Polly, quits drinking and starts preaching. But Polly is done. She no longer fears John but fears what she might do to him. She goes to live with Candy at her mansion Charlemont. It's the place where she'll always be loved.
",

Born from a season of profound solitude and the quiet defiance of personal collapse, this multimodal work weaves together the analytical and the confessional.

Mendez navigates a dense map of returning-moving from the sterile walls of a 300-square-foot Miami apartment to the vast, self-configuring circuitry of the universe. It is a book for those who sense that consciousness is not an accident, that pain is the gravity of our freedom, and that love remains our most accurate language.
",

                "description": "
Deep in the Northwoods of Minnesota in the frigid January of 1978, the brown sticky walls of our poverty-stricken house weren't the only toxic things to touch. The air was stiff and tight in the winter and loose and hot in the summer, much like my birth mother - loose, hot, and in heat half the time. CPS had been on Wanda's trail for the last 2 years, poking into her life every few months to snatch up my brother and me when she decided to start a new life somewhere else, leaving us behind. She fled the county after receiving an ultimatum, where it then appears she set my crib on fire within the month. Following the blaze, I died three times in the ICU, having lost most of my skin to the fire, but God sent me back. I wasn't done living. The resulting wounds ran like ink on wet paper, staining everything and destroying normal boundaries. After 70+ surgeries and a lifetime of pain, Joni is finally ready to share her story. A year after the incident, she was adopted by an elderly couple. DeSchane's adoptive mom thought the idea of corporal punishment was the stress reliever she'd been searching for. In a bold, courageous moment, Joni went and sought advice from the school counselor. Two days later, her belongings got packed into black trash bags by CPS, yet again, and dropped off at what would become a steady procession of new homes. Joni spent years running, being chased by a past that wouldn't let her rest, longing for the same freedoms that civilization takes for granted.

The struggles Joni has walked have deepened her understanding of the wider world and her place within. Dying has taught her that peace is our birthright. You have to love yourself enough to struggle if that's where you keep ending up. As you struggle, you get stronger. The wounding is where the light comes in, where strength's rallying cry begins. The butterfly knows that there may come a time when you have to let the past go in order to fly. Follow along as DeSchane unfolds a lasting peace within herself amid the turmoil of ... A Life Born in Flame.
",

                "description": "
n the dead of night-an hour whispered about as the devil's hour-Detective Martin Peters is pulled from restless sleep by yet another call. Already worn thin by exhaustion, he is thrust back into a relentless investigation that refuses to let him rest. The city's growing list of victims weighs heavily on him, each case deepening the guilt, anger, and grief he carries.

Arriving at a crime scene along the shadowed pier, Martin is barely holding himself together. Driven by a fierce determination to stop the killer, he clings to one promise: he will catch whoever is responsible, no matter the cost. But the strain is beginning to show. Haunted by memories of his wife and the lives lost under his watch, his focus teeters between sharp instinct and emotional collapse.

When his allies-Andrews, Balendin, and Samantha-suddenly vanish without explanation, the situation becomes even more unsettling. Their silence raises a chilling possibility: they may have returned to a time that is not his own. As reality begins to blur with something far more complex, Martin is forced to confront the truth that this case is no ordinary investigation.

Caught between duty, loss, and the unraveling threads of time itself, Martin must navigate a mystery that stretches beyond the present. As the line between past and present fractures, one question remains-can he stop the killer before time runs out, or will he lose himself in the process?

The Keepers of Time: The Awakening is a gripping blend of crime, psychological tension, and time-bending intrigue, where every second counts and nothing is as it seems.
",

                "description": "Denominations III: A study of Calvinism and the Presbyterian Church is more than a workbook-it's a spiritual invitation to return to the foundations of biblical truth. In this volume, I encourage readers to evaluate their faith not by tradition, but by the teachings of Christ and His apostles, as revealed through Scripture. What makes this book unique is the way each lesson is structured, offering deep scriptural analysis, reflection questions, and opportunities for genuine growth, presented in a respectful yet firm tone. It doesn't attack differing views but compels honest, Bible-based exploration.

Within this 13-lesson study, I first examine the tenets of John Calvin, whose theology continues to influence denominational beliefs to this day. (i.e., \"Original Sin,\" and \"Once Saved, Always Saved\"). With Calvinism as a backdrop, the book turns to a study of a denomination that holds to most, if not all, of these tenets, the Presbyterian Church. These tenets have led this group to question Scripture's inerrancy and authority, which, in turn, has led to changes in their worship protocol. Changes in the observance of the Lord's Supper, the necessity and method of baptism, and the acceptance of women into their ministry, to name a few.

Paul told Timothy, \"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.\" (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The importance of accepting this passage is becoming a challenge for many today, and this book reveals that the Presbyterian Church has failed in this challenge.

Whether used individually or in a group, this study challenges believers to set aside inherited doctrines and seek the unity Jesus prayed for. This scripture-based workbook promises to help the reader align their faith with the teachings of Christ through an eye-opening, respectful, and deeply thought-provoking study.
",

                "description": "This book continues the series with a focus on the Eastern Orthodox Churches, following their split in A.D.1054 from Roman Catholicism, which set a floor for ongoing heresies, man-made doctrines, and pronouncements, with influential church leaders pioneering these atrocities as equal bearers of authority in the same manner as the Holy Scriptures.

Exploring the early councils, attended by numerous Catholic/Orthodox bishops, which convened between A.D. 325 and 787, the author seeks to explain not only the reason for the split but also what set the tone or Foundation leading to this rebellion against God's Divine Authority. The decisions/proclamations of the first seven councils hailed and elevated by these bishops as \"Holy,\" \"Divine,\" and \"Authoritative, \"were uncovered instead to be nothing more than man-made, hypocritical, and on occasion, deceitful - plagiarizing God's Word as if It were their own words of wisdom! (Exp. First Council, Canon 2 / 1 Timothy 3:6).

This rebellion played out into a 'Reformation,' with Martin Luther pulling away, resulting in the first 'protesting' or protestant denomination, the Lutheran Church. Unfortunately, the Lutherans only modified the beliefs of their mother church - trading a pope for Synods, a restrictive liturgy for 'faith only salvation,' and Holy Tradition for Confessions and Creeds. These modifications, a mixture of truths with non-truths, to this day make discernment of God's desired work and worship more challenging to discern, and worshipping in vain the more likely result. (Matthew 15:9). Paul told the Colossians, \"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all (not some) in the name (authority) of the Lord Jesus\" (Col. 3:17).

Mixing truth with non-truth is like being 'lukewarm' - neither cold nor hot, neither all in, nor all out - our Lord had something to say regarding this, did He not? (Revelation 3:15-16).

This second volume examines the Orthodox, Anglican, or Episcopal, and Lutheran churches in an effort to compare each with the Scriptures and to Christ's church as He established it in the first century.

",

                "description": "Having faith in and believing in the validity of the Scriptures as absolute truth is becoming increasingly critical as we examine these more recent denominations. Paul told Timothy, \"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.\" (2 Timothy 3:16-17) That was true in Paul's day and continues to be true today.

The importance of that belief is revealed in this book, as it contains two groups in particular that have compromised on this passage - the Presbyterian Church, taking the position that Scripture has either no error, or, being written by men, contains much error, with numerous views in between, all views being tolerated and accepted by their Constitution. And the other group, the Methodist Church, who claim, \"The Bible's true authority does not lie in its verbal inerrancy or even its factual accuracy ... its power is not demonstrated in winning arguments but in transforming lives.\" To properly understand Scripture, Methodists insist one must filter God's Word through a lens of \"tradition, reason, and experience.\"

Why are the Scriptures - God's Holy Word, \"profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and training in righteousness\" not sufficient today? Why are they being accused of lacking factual accuracy? Why the need to filter them to be understood? Seeking an answer to these is but one goal of this third volume - Denominations: From God or Man?

\"Let a woman learn in silence, with all submission\" (1 Timothy 2:11). This verse and the next, \"And I do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man, but to be in silence\" (2:12), are two of the most misunderstood passages on the issue of women's roles in the public assembly. It's not that women are inferior to men in any way to occupy leadership roles - it has to do with divine choice. Though it is not incumbent upon the Almighty to give a reason for what He decides, Paul, through the Spirit, offers several reasons women are not to hold leadership positions, and neither have anything to do with male-female equality. This book delves into this subject to reveal these truths from God's Word.

This third volume continues the series by focusing on four denominations, following a study on the work of John Calvin titled \"Calvinism.\" These denominations include the Presbyterian, Anabaptist, Methodist, and Salvation Army Churches. As with previous volumes, this one seeks to compare each group with the Scriptures and with Christ's church, which He established in the first century.
",
