"description": "
Being a share ride driver working the late or overnight shift has its challenges. You have to manage the behavior of people who are sometimes intoxicated, mentally challenged, upset, and belligerent. I'm the nicest person in the world, and I always politely let people know I'm the captain of this ship. I am always respectful, and I expect it in return. When dealing with the public, you never know what you might see on any given ride from the funny to the perverse and everything in between. You have to be ready for anything and have a quick mind to overcome any situation. People and situations come at you quickly and in real time. These stories are just a snapshot of what I have had to deal with in doing over 30,000 Uber and Lyft rides. You will read that I've been in dangerous and life-threatening situations. You will read stories of passengers asking me to hurt people for them. You will read stories of me picking up criminals who just committed strong-arm robberies and tried to use me as a getaway driver. You will read stories of me having to put people out of my car for inappropriate behavior. And you will read lighthearted and funny stories, too, and everything in between. Thank you for going on this adventure with me, and I hope these stories make you scratch your head in wonder, laugh out loud, and think, What would you do?
",

Across these stories, a scientific breakthrough unsettles the nature of identity, institutions make life-and-death decisions through process and policy, and people discover too late that efficient systems rarely stay neutral.

These are not stories of distant galaxies or epic wars. They are darker, closer, and more unsettling than that. They unfold through contracts, screens, algorithms, medical judgments, and private moments of fear, love, memory, and resistance. Each story blends psychological depth with dystopian tension, exploring bioethics, identity, consciousness, and the hidden cost of progress.

Perfect for readers of literary speculative fiction, dystopian fiction, and thought-provoking AI fiction, Catalogue of Impossible Lives offers smart, chilling, emotionally resonant stories that stay with you long after the final page. It is a book about impossible choices, fragile lives, and the systems we build before we understand what they are capable of becoming.
",

                "description": "
Tom Evans has spent over two years trying to understand not why, but how a mother can brutally murder her husband, her lover's wife and her own children. It's the question that he was left with when he finished his jury service in Lori Vallow Daybell's trial in Idaho.

He knew it was a complex question with a complex answer, but that the answer was important. Tom said at the end of her trial: \"If we just put her away and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done, we are missing the point.\"

Sitting through her trial in Idaho as a juror, Chad Daybell's trial in Idaho as an observer and Lori Vallow Daybell's trials in Arizona has convinced Tom that there are connections between their crimes and other fundamentalist religious forces at work in our country.

Crimes against innocent children are being committed continually and very little is being done to stop it. Children are raped, trafficked and enslaved all in the name of religion and it's happening right under our noses.

To answer the burning question of how, Tom goes all the way back to the 1820s and works his way through to the present. After writing three books on the subject and immersing himself into researching religious zealotry, Mormon fundamentalism and cults, he is finally satisfied with the answer.

Tom believes that what we do with the answer will define our times. Can we accept that our culture created Lori Vallow Daybell and that we must take responsibility for her? Or, will we be offended by Tom's idea that it's our history that led to her crimes?

It's a controversial question. No one is left out of his critique. Religious zealots, narcissistic power-hungry men, the media, the justice system, our government, Christianity and yes, even you and I, have to be able to look at ourselves and ask how we created Lori Vallow Daybell.

The answer to that question will determine how we proceed into the future and deal with people like Warren Jeffs, Lori Vallow Daybell and Sam Bateman. Yes, those people are all in prison and will be for the rest of their time on earth, but others have filled the void and on it goes. The roots of the problems are still with us and will be until we expose them and have the courage to make changes to stop them.

Tom hopes that this book and his two previous books in the trilogy will contribute to the solution.

",

                "description": "
Lakeview Palladium: The Untold Story of George and Catherine Tuck is a raw, riveting portrait of Black entrepreneurship, family legacy, and the hidden costs of survival.

In mid-century Dayton, Ohio, the Tuck family empire The Tuck Supper Club, Lavender Lounge, and Lakeview Palladium stood as beacons of sophistication and sanctuary. Their stages welcomed jazz and R&B royalty, their dining rooms shimmered with elegance, and their walls held the dreams of a community pushed to the margins. But beneath the glittering lights, a darker truth pulsed: George Tuck, a charismatic hustler, ran numbers and laundered gambling profits through his venues, blurring ambition with criminality. At his side was Catherine Tuck-the brilliance, heart, and soul behind the brand-whose quiet strength anchored the family until betrayal and tragedy tore it apart.

After Catherine's untimely death, their 13 year-old daughter Marna Tuck Johnson stepped into the chaos: managing nightclubs, caring for her paralysed mother, and enduring tyranny of her father.

Spanning three generations of women Catherine, Marna, and author Tamala Johnson-Wyatt this book is more than a family history. It's a cultural reckoning. A tribute to mothers, daughters, and granddaughters who turned pain into power and duty into legacy. It's a call to preserve the stories of matriarchs before they vanish.

Bold, deeply personal, and unforgettable, Lakeview Palladium captures the heartbeat of a community at that time and explains how you can build your legacy.

",

The book examines how humanity began, the intrigues and movements within early human families, and how these movements led to the rise of ancient civilizations, particularly in Africa. It strongly argues that Black Africans were pioneers of science, engineering, medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and architecture long before other civilizations such as the Greeks and Romans emerged. Through historical interpretation, the book challenges the long-held narrative that portrays Africans as people without a significant past, asserting instead that Africa was the cradle of advanced knowledge and civilization, evidenced by achievements such as the pyramids of Egypt and Nubia. Pastor Adenekan further traces the dispersion of ancient African peoples and connects them to present-day African identities, with particular reference to the Yoruba people of West Africa. Orunte serves as both a historical re-examination and a cultural awakening, aimed at restoring pride, identity, and awareness of Africa's central place in human history as the true land of beginnings.
",

                "description": "
When seventeen-year-old Grace loses her mother, she expects silence. What she doesn't expect is to discover that silence has something to say.

After her mother's death, Grace is drowning in a house full of people who don't know how to grieve out loud. Her father works longer hours. Her brother plays his guitar at low volume. And Grace writes, not stories, not poetry, just letters. To loneliness. To the wind. To whatever shows up loudest in her heart that day.

Then something unexpected happens: the letters start writing back.

A mysterious notebook appears on her dresser. A record with no label plays her dead mother's voice. A carved stone in the garden bears a name no one in her family will explain. And in the margins of a school library book, a stranger has left behind a single sentence that feels like it was written just for her.

The Quiet Weight of Wings is a beautifully crafted debut novel about grief, identity, and the extraordinary power of words to hold people together, even across time, even across loss.

Told through lyrical prose, interwoven letters, and the voices of those Grace slowly draws into her orbit, this is a story about what it means to stay: in a house full of ghosts, in friendships that ask you to be seen, and in yourself, when you'd rather disappear. It is about the small, stubborn acts of healing that nobody photographs and nobody applauds, and why they matter most.

For anyone who has ever written a letter they were afraid to send, or held grief they didn't know how to name, this book understands you.

Perfect for fans of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, A Little Life, and The Lovely Bones.
",

Yet she ultimately took over their struggling business, driven by an inability to abandon a problem.

She believed she was in the home care business-licensed, employing caregivers, and serving clients. But she was competing on the wrong metrics: pricing, services, and credentials, barely surviving. She cried in parking lots, didn't pay herself, and lied to friends about her \"amazing\" venture. She wondered if caring too much was just another form of failure.

Then came the realization: She wasn't in home care; she was in hospitality. This single shift changed everything.

Borrowed Time: What Home Care Taught Me About Living isn't just about the time we borrow with our aging loved ones-it's about the time we borrow from ourselves, pouring everything into a business that either breaks us or transforms us.
